So, as you know, we've been on a venue adventure since our usual home for SG is closed this summer, right. Kinda stressful. For sure.

Yesterday I (Dionna) began to dig back into old SG notebooks, and there's something about looking at the odds we've overcome in the past with waaay less resources and waaaay less of a sense of direction that nudge me a little further forward, ya know. It's not without its stress but... we're working on it. I have faith ~

There's something really valuable about creative spaces. Something about showing up, wherever you're at, to be heard and to hear, to see and be seen. To do your creative work. To just.. speak. Or sing. Or move. There's a courage. There's a vulnerability, and a power. We make room for each other and ourselves. I've grown up in these spaces. Open mics, workshops, theatre classes, etc. These communal, creative spaces have ignited my expansion as a person, as an artist. And continue to. And they’ve connected me with such cool, radiant, fantastic people! That I maybe wouldn't otherwise come in contact with. Just.. invaluable.

Waaay too easy to gravitate towards the letters at Joanns 🤷🏾‍♀️ got me thinking of some little projects for this year's SunGround. A couple years back we spray painted a large cardboard 'S' and a large cardboard 'G' to make a cute little SG sign. It was cute. We have fun. These letters are cork!! We love cork!!

for all you briiilliant people out there who want to: perform • sing • play • dance • lead a yoga practice • lead a workshop • showcase and/or sell visual art • stage a reading of a short play • spit some spoken word or read some written works • hit us with a stand up routine • vend your heart out • capture the day through your lens • anything else that sets you on fire! YES let's do this! ⠀

We are so so so so excited about this vibrant new addition this year! These efforts are a way to give opportunity to a beautiful visual artist out there to have their work featured on an SG t-shirt this year! Each applicant will work from a prompt to create the piece — we'll select a single person whose art resonates with us, we'll pay you a flat rate of $100 for your dazzling creation, and we'll send it to a local print shop to then celebrate & sell at this year's Forest Festival Retreat!⠀

When I lose my way, reading back my own poetry that I haven't looked at in a while is a way to get back in touch. A way to "listen to my own frequency" as Ru Paul would say. (Been watching MasterClass lessons with the guest pass my lovely cuzo sent me. Hehe.) What about you, artists? How does returning to your work affect you?

Seann, lead vocalist & pianist of @flounderwarehouse is one of the sweetest people I (Dionna) have met throughout this whole creating a festival thang ~ which is partly why it's such a fun experience to be involved with! We continue to meet cool & radiant people, striking artists from nyc, philly, & nj that inspire us ~ that make us wanna dance, or just sit and listen, people who we maybe wouldn't otherwise cross paths with. Ya know? Cool things. We can't wait to see who strolls into our world this summer! Artist applications are dropping so SOON I can taste it

Ps, as I write this post, I find myself wanting to put on one of my Flounder Warehouse favs, the silky smooth classic "What to Do" ... so I think I will :) by @sungroundnj

2) quick updates! Alright, so, keep hanging with us for those Artist Applications, it's been a season, ya'll. Lots of healing going on over here... they should be churned out in the next couple weeks. We've had fun crafting them, hope they're somewhat enjoyable to sit with 💘

3) quick update number two ~ we found out our usual home, Pinelands Center at Mt. Misery, is closed for summer 2022 :0 so! We've been on a venue hunt. Shook us up a bit to hear but we are wishing the Mt. Miz fam well & rolling with the punches. Yall know any small/intimate campgrounds or nature centers in South Jersey that can host 100-120 people? Let us know if you do, would love any suggestions!👇🏽

Got some @rememberjones tunes stuck in our heads today 🥸 hard not to! A heck of a time to be in the same room with them for hours on end! Oof! Come on now! That energy ya'll! Those vocals! That souuuul! The suave, the sassy, the eloquent, the elevational, the revelational, the extravagant, the fly, the fabulous Remember Jones folks ~ thanks for a great night. Keith & I (Dionna) and a crew of friends hit one of your shows last week at @bbowlphilly and it was a time and a half.⠀
