A QUIET RECKONING has been more than three years in the making, shaped by countless conversations and stories of courage and resilience.

The film tells the remarkable story, of how the determination of one man helped transform the lives of the LGBTQI+ community in a place where many were forced to live underground, their truth hidden from the world. Dr Sunil Menon, one of India’s leading LGBTQI+ voices, takes us into the heart of the community in Chennai, for a rare and intimate glimpse into the struggle for queer and transgender people to live with dignity. We meet people who share what it took to transcend constitutional and societal barriers, violence and abuse, and to claim their right to live full, authentic lives.

Sunil’s personal story as a gay man and activist determined to transform the lives of the LGBTQI+ community, anchors this story of resilience, strength, defiance, and joy in the face of the most impossible of odds.

Our first preview screening will be for an invited audience at the Tagore Theatre in Chennai, at the end of October. The film will premiere in Sydney and Melbourne in February 2027, followed by screenings across Australia and around the world.
