POSTS STORIES REELS TAGGED

This post is dedicated to Hector and @cookingwithcarmen from @almondgrworkshops in Thessaloniki, Greece. I’ve just had the most amazing workshop at the almond grove where Carmen and Hector welcomed us into their home like we were family, not just guests. As I think most of you who’ve been following along know I’m completely self taught so it has been amazing to learn in the flesh, and to be able to ask the questions I previously haven’t had answers for and to have my technique critiqued and improved. Before the workshop I was only able to easily centre a few kilos of clay at a time on the wheel and by the time I left Hector had me throwing 8kg platters & casseroles. I’ve left with a full heart.. and a full belly 😅 Seriously the food in Thessaloniki is unmatched. Carmen took such good care of us and made the most delicious homemade meals all served at the long table in their kitchen where we sat ate, talked and drank for hours. I’ve left with so much more confidence in clay, and with a playfulness to explore what can be achieved..to see where a piece will go, without so much attachment. I also want to thank Fannie, Kelly, John & Jen who were my muddy buddies in kind. We arrived as strangers and left as almondgrove family, my peacocks and chickens. I couldn’t have asked for a better crew to learn and grow with. I have no doubt I’ll be back again #playdirty by @sunmaker_studios

I know it doesn’t look like much but these photos are the sum of so many hours of work. Mixing, sieving, researching and testing specific gravity of glazes. Making and bisque firing all these tiles. Dipping, painting and then diligently recording all layering application notes. This is my first ever run of test tiles. Up until now I’ve been ‘testing’ glazes on my work but more and more often I have been ruining good pots with bad glazes (or ruining my kiln shelves too with runny glazes ☠️). It had also made the glazing process so slow as I’m always unsure of how I’ll glaze a certain piece and not confident with my ideas. All these tests will make me more confident and efficient when it comes to glazing. This is just scratching the surface of the glaze layering possibilities from the glazes I have but has answered so many of my questions and ruled out many bad combinations. Swipe for the results & the box of rejects 🌈🌈🌈 #glazetesting by @sunmaker_studios

Sorry for being so quiet on here for a while. I’ve been working hard on new glaze combinations and ironing out some issues in the studio as well as finishing setting it up. I’m in the process of making a photo booth so haven’t been taking any photos of my work lately however I couldn’t resist some snaps in the sunshine last night #pottery #potterylove #ceramic #keramic #mayco #amaco #handmade by @sunmaker_studios
