This past spring ArtBridge returned to Lenox Hill Neighborhood House, a multi-generational community center, to engage older adults in a 10-week art workshop. Thanks to a Su Casa grant supported by @speakermenin we were able to welcome artist Kim Caban (@sunroomsala) to lead a Caribbean Art Botanica series 🌱🪴🪻

Focusing on the rich agricultural heritage of the islands, Kim invited community members to transform tropical fruits, heirloom seeds, and household objects into vibrant mixed-media art. Sowing the seeds of life and memory, the series culminated in a final exhibition showcasing each participant's work. Seeds grew into plants, masks were fully adorned, and paintings of herbs and flowers lay next to the fragrant items that inspired them.

Each participant presented art inspired by their own personal stories, but together they shared a collective harvest.

Artist Kim Caban runs Sunroom Sala, a creative workroom dedicated to producing immersive experiences that cultivate a deep connection between art, urban horticulture, and access to green spaces. By blending artistic expression with environmental mindfulness, she invites individuals to engage thoughtfully with art, nature, and community. Through innovative art & agriculture projects, and curated installations, Sunroom Sala fosters an atmosphere where creativity and sustainability coexist, encouraging visitors to explore how art can inspire care for the environment. They turn ideas into community-enriching moments, blending creativity with sustainability to inspire art and land stewardship.

“Musa Paradisiaca”

Watercolor & ink on paper

11x14

My beloved Abu (abuela) dedicated herself to taking care of the land, and in return, Mother Nature provided abundantly and took care of her 🌱

In her honor, we leave her machete in our family garden 💚 “Musa Paradisiaca”

“cafetera: greca”

The moka pot, a staple in countless Latino homes, often called a ‘greca’ or ‘cafetera’, its more than just a coffee pot! It's years of family conversations, and the aroma of shared memories…

It's been fun exploring digital art and finding my style✨ “cafetera: greca”

Its been delightful moving away from traditional painting and building digital artworks. ✨ by @sunroomsala

The ‘Flor de Maga’ is known as the national flower of Puerto Rico.

This grandiflora showcases stunning shades of orange and yellow

Often confused with the hibiscus, the key distinction is in its growth—Flor de Maga flourishes on trees, and hibiscus blooms on shrubs or bushes.

Silk screen // screen prints

Went back to using OG techniques - one screen/one print/ one color (Kelly green)

I first learned this technique, screen printing in 2009 - it soon became a core memory in my artistic growth bc I spent so much time learning about it.

It felt therapeutic tapping into art this summer at the farm, we made t.shirt prints and posters
