right now i really resent life on Earth so much.
you can spend your whole life here forming a
deep bond and connection w/ someone you’ve
known since y’all were both in diapers just for
them to be gone forever at the receipt of a
phone call.

so much love attached to a temporary existence.
so much love we attach to the recognition of our
loved ones in a temporary form, a temporary body.
i resent that setup deeply. what an arrangement for
inevitable grief, sorrow, affliction, broken-heartedness,
and anguish that we have absolutely no control over.

i usually am good with the wise lesson of acceptance and
i understand nothing lasts forever, i know.. but Bot we had
many more decades to spend together. i never had the
slightest doubt in my mind that we would grow old in tandem.
i’ve known you every second of your whole life and i expected
you to be here for the rest of mine, cousin.

not being able to see you smile again might as well be a
knife to my heart because it hurts just the same. hearing
you say “what’s good cuzzo” or all the numerous ways
you’d make me laugh and i’d think to myself “bruh this
nigga bot is hilarious” were crucial parts of my reason for
being alive, being hopeful, having something in this life to
look forward to. i was just telling trinity how a couple months
ago i was in my room alone expressing gratitude for having
you in my life. “damn i love Bot bro, fr. that nigga means a lot
to me. that’s my dawg. i thank God for him. he’s such a stand
up guy”… literally no one else in the room, just me reflecting
and talking out loud to myself and feeling grateful for you.

you walking through the door at the family functions meant
something spiritual to me. i just loved seeing you, Bot. every
single time. you’re not just my cousin, you were a brother to
me and you know that. we both felt that. ever since uncle
bookie’s passing last year we took a vow as a family to truly
cherish every moment we have with each other so you & i
never shied away from looking each other in the eye and
expressing how much we meant to one another. there was
no masculine bravado in the way of that. it was sincere.

i work like 2-3 days a week and
get to travel the world for free.

nothing in this life lasts forever so
i’m squeezing the nectar out of every
blessing i have in front of me while i’m
alive to appreciate it.

hot air balloons. 3 course meals.
stars clusters in the desert night sky.
signature moroccan mint tea. pranayama
yogic philosophy. shadow journaling.
conversations by the pool in front of the
sunlight. palm trees. cocktail hour.
texts from the concierge, “your driver has
arrived”. drinks on a sky lounge rooftop
overlooking the medina. moroccan rugs.
beautiful outfits and dresses worn by the
ladies on the retreat to marvel at while
i happily sit across from them at the dinner
table. tickets from the marrakech police
for not wearing seatbelts. driver getting stuck
in a ditch on the way to dinner. complimentary
champagne sent over to us from the table
beside that was celebrating a graduation.
breath work, meditation, songwriting,
cats, turtles, camels, birds chirping, luxury,
opulence, gratitude, and appreciation.
