We are a BIPOC & queer-run space in East Vancouver with 4 shared wheels, 24/7 key access, and kiln firings included.

We’re looking for members who already have experience in pottery to join our supportive community and develop their projects independently.

A new chapter for our studio.

We’re stepping into something new and we couldn’t be more excited. Grace has joined Farnoush as co-owner, and together we’re ready to get to work: two artists who care deeply about clay and the community around it.

As for changes behind the scenes - Dustin has moved on, and we wish him well with what’s next.

Grace (they/them) is queer and non-binary, of Estonian and Scottish descent, living on MST lands. After years in biology and ocean sciences they found their way back to art - and haven’t looked back. Seven years into ceramics, clay has become their medium for self-expression, creativity and wellness. Teaching is a big part of their practice and they’re looking forward to sharing that joy with more people.

Farnoush Golkar (she/her) co-founded the studio in 2022.  She is a queer Iranian-Canadian multidisciplinary artist with a primary focus on ceramics for over five years. Her work is rooted in her Iranian heritage and a love for forms that evoke a sense of the past. She’s entering this new chapter with a focus on creative freedom in her practice.

Together, we’re building a ceramics community - relaxing, inspiring, a place to create, connect, and learn from each other. A safe space for QTBIPOC folks. Somewhere friendships and creative relationships grow naturally.

We have a lot coming: classes, workshops, and more, starting this summer. Stay tuned.

Kelsie joined Sunset last December and has quickly become a core community member. She is always the first to help, shares all of her knowledge about tools, glazes and everything else pottery related (or otherwise)! She also designed our logo and helps us with our graphic design! We feel very lucky to have her be apart of our community. Here’s a little about her:

Hi, I’m Kelsie, and I’ve enjoyed getting muddy ever since I was a kid playing in the sandbox, mixing sand with water and dirt samples from around the yard. As an adult, I’ve been working with clay for 11 years and joined Sunset Ceramics Studio last winter. I love exploring all facets of pottery and bringing ideas to life. My signature mugs focus on graphic patterns, hand-building techniques, and feature bright colors with a mid-century modern flair. taken in East Vancouver by @sunsetceramicsstudio

We’ve had the pleasure of seeing Charlotte create her beautiful work for a long time now. We continue to be inspired by the dedication she brings to her practice.

Here’s more about her:

Hello, I’m Charlotte Maytham. I’ve been exploring ceramics for 17 years and sharing a space with the fine people at Sunset on and off for the past few years. Most of my studio time is spent searching for the perfect mug. My practice centers around playful porcelain forms which combine wheel-thrown and hand built elements. I’m always looking for new ways to incorporate illustration onto my pieces using painting, drawing or even screenprinting. I’m so excited to share these ideas that have brought me such delight. taken in East Vancouver by @sunsetceramicsstudio
