☀️ REASON #21: BECAUSE WE ARE SUNSHINE. 💙

For 21 days, we’ve shared 21 reasons to keep Sunshine shining.

We shared faces, stories, friendships, accomplishments, laughter, and moments that may seem small to the world… but mean everything to us.

And now we’ve reached Reason #21.

The last one.

But maybe this was the reason behind all the others from the very beginning:

Them. Us. This family.

Sunshine is more than a program.

It’s a place where someone found a best friend.
Where someone discovered a talent they didn’t know they had.
Where someone felt seen, included, celebrated, and loved exactly as they are.

It’s the laughter filling the room.
The hugs at the door.
The music and dancing.
The birthdays. The field trips. The performances.
The ordinary days that became unforgettable memories.

If these walls could talk, they would tell thousands of stories.

Stories of growth.
Stories of friendship.
Stories of belonging.

And we are not ready for those stories to end.

That is why today, on our 21st and final reason, we are asking you to help us.

☀️ REASON 20: STAYING CONNECTED, NO MATTER THE DISTANCE 💻💛

At Sunshine Projects, connection doesn’t stop when someone can’t be there in person. Sometimes, a computer screen becomes a bridge — a bridge to friendship, laughter, learning, and belonging. 💻✨

For Jonathan, our online classes give him the opportunity to stay connected with the friends who are an important part of his life. He can participate, learn, laugh, talk, and continue being part of the Sunshine community from wherever he is.

But those connections don’t stay behind a screen. 💛

Sunshine’s themed parties and special events give Jonathan the chance to see his friends in person, make new memories, celebrate together, and strengthen the friendships that started and continue through our programs. 🎉☀️

This is what Sunshine Projects is about: making sure everyone has a way to belong. Whether it’s in person or online, every participant deserves opportunities to build friendships, stay connected, learn new things, and feel like an important part of a community.

Technology may help bring us together, but it’s the friendships, love, laughter, and memories that make those connections real. 💛

At Sunshine Projects, dance is so much more than learning steps or moving to music. It’s a way to communicate, express emotions, build confidence, have fun, and feel completely free to be yourself. 🎶💃

For our participants, having a space where they can explore their talents and express themselves without fear or judgment is incredibly important. Every smile, every dance move, and every moment on the dance floor reminds us why Sunshine exists.

Here, everyone has something special to share. Some express themselves through art, some through music, cooking, technology, or theater, and some come alive when the music starts playing. ✨

☀️ REASON 18: FINDING JOY IN DOING WHAT WE LOVE 🐶🦴💛

“I really love making dog biscuits! I have a dog of my own, so being able to make treats for so many dogs is really fun. I love learning how to make them and knowing that other dogs get to enjoy something I helped create!”

At Sunshine Projects, something as simple as making dog biscuits can become so much more. It’s a chance to learn, create, work together, build confidence, and feel proud of accomplishing something from beginning to end.

For Abby, this activity is especially meaningful because of her love for dogs. 🐾 She gets to take something she already loves and turn it into a fun, hands-on experience that allows her to learn new skills while making something special for others.

And that is what Sunshine Projects is all about. ☀️

It’s about creating a place where every participant has opportunities to explore their interests, discover their abilities, build friendships, and experience the joy of saying, “I made this!”

These moments may look small from the outside, but for our participants, they can mean so much. Every class, every activity, every friendship, and every new accomplishment helps create a community where everyone has a place to belong and an opportunity to shine. 💛

☀️ REASON 17: BECAUSE AT SUNSHINE, PARTICIPANTS CAN BECOME TEACHERS TOO. ❤️

“ I love video games, and at Sunshine I was the Game Master! 🎮 I also love playing pickleball with my friends. I started at Sunshine as a student, and now I get to teach online classes too! I really enjoy being part of Sunshine.”

Brenden’s journey at Sunshine Projects is a beautiful example of what happens when people are given the opportunity to discover their strengths, and then share those strengths with others.

Brenden first came to Sunshine as a participant. Passionate about video games, he quickly became known as our “Game Master” 🎮, while also enjoying activities like pickleball and, most importantly, spending time with his friends.

But his story didn’t stop there.

Today, Brenden is also an online teacher at Sunshine Projects, going from being a student in our community to having the opportunity to lead, teach, and share what he knows with others. 🌟

That is what Sunshine is about: not defining people by their disabilities, but recognizing their abilities, talents, interests, and potential. Sometimes someone comes through our doors ready to learn ,and one day, they become the person teaching others.
