if i don’t post this now i never will, so here it goes:

when i first went to @draaimolen_ as a visitor in 2023, i was blown away. the lineup, the production, the sense of DIY creativity in every stage design. i just thought something like this wasn’t possible in the netherlands.

it’s been my third year now. this time as part of the team. and i still can’t understand, HOW this mix of DIY and professional production works, but it does. and it was beautiful to witness everything falling into place as the never-ending deluge of little organisational intricacies kept being taken care of.

more and more people coming in, sharing their time and pouring their heart and soul into this. not for money or fame, but for the joy of knowing we are creating one of the best music festivals in the world. each of us individuals. each of us with our own blueprint of what that even meant.

and in the end?
despite all of these different personalities
despite all these sometimes conflicting ideals
despite all the pressure
despite all the weight on our shoulders

i think we did a pretty good job

my deepest gratitude goes out to @milovanbuijtene @tharimcornelisse @annelieke.rovers @hannahzwaans @waterdaniel for letting me be a part of this wild ride

and every single other person involved for being crazy enough to stick to the end

my new year’s resolution was to finally release music and play live, so i guess that’s done then

full recording on @notexist_e.v soundcloud and in my linked sets

NOTHING IS NOTHING

festivals are temporary utopias. places where both our understanding of — and our role within society can be challenged.

places where we draw the blueprints of our subculture. where we find a new sense of community and belonging. where we reflect upon ourselves in different ways.

i have yet to find a place that represents this vision better to me than @draaimolen_

in 2023 i came here for the crazy lineup. but after working here for two years, the lineup is one of the things i least care about. i come back here for the people that make this place the crazy mess that it is.

i come back here because i know that every single person involved pours their heart and soul into shaping our tiny little utopia.
i come back here because i can trust these people to do anything they can to make this happen — no matter how small their part may be. not for financial reasons but because this place needs to exist.
i come back here because every year this place teaches me something new and connects me with people that share the same values.

i come back here because all of us are stupid idealists, but in our own loveable ways.

i come back here because at the end of it all — despite all the sweat and sleepless nights — we create something that we can be proud of.

we give it our all for this passing mirage that can only work because of how short lived it is. all to show you our vision of community and culture.

nothing but love for all of you crazy masochists that make draaimolen the best festival in the world.

[this one is for the locals]
vor 5 jahren hat sich in bielefeld ein kleiner verein gegründet mit dem zweck, räume für unsere vision von subkultur zu schaffen.

damals hatte noch niemand im team so richtig ahnung von grafik, medien oder branding.
ich auch nicht.
aber man wächst ja bekanntlich mit seinen aufgaben.

mit dem ersten SYLOA auf dem gelände der alten FH begann also auch meine arbeit. mir wurden das passwort für @notexist_e.v und ein budget für plakate gegeben und ich durfte mich austoben. die ersten events noch nur hinter der kamera, statt hinter den decks

aus 500 besucher*innen wurden im nächsten jahr schnell 1000 und aus 13 ordentlichen mitgliedern wurde schnell ein team aus fast 30

mittlerweile sind wir ein fester bestandteil der bielefelder szene und ein konstanter gegenpol zum profitorientierten mainstream. wir erschaffen mit purer leidenschaft etwas, das andere mit keinem geld der welt erschaffen könnten

ich konnte mich in den letzten fünf jahren auf so vielen ebenen kreativ ausleben und bin einfach nur unendlich dankbar für alle, die über die jahre dabei waren und geholfen haben, mir und so vielen anderen aufstrebenden bielefelder kunstschaffenden dies zu ermöglichen.

mit euch habe ich gelernt, wie aus einer idee etwas großartiges entsteht. wie ein loses kollektiv zu einer marke wird. mit euch habe ich das selbstbewusstsein entwickelt, meine ersten DJ sets und dieses jahr auch mein erstes live set mit eigenen produktionen vor publikum zu spielen

ich hätte mir kaum einen besseren abschied wünschen können als das set in werther gestern. zwar mit nur einer funktionierenden hand, aber man wächst ja bekanntlich mit seinen aufgaben.

am nächsten wochenende ziehen @_adelina_koslowski und ich nach berlin, aber egal wohin man geht — sich selbst nimmt man immer mit. und not exist ist ein teil von mir geworden

und auch ich werde weiterhin aus der ferne ein teil von not exist bleiben. wir sehen uns wieder, wenn auch nicht mehr so oft. ich vermisse euch jetzt schon by @supafrisch

THANK YOU

it’s been some insanely stressful weeks putting together a live set in such a short time, but it was so worth it

like most DJs i’ve been dabbling in production for a while now, but never really had the confidence to release any of my productions

saturday you all showed me that it’s probably about time to change that

playing two hours of nothing but my own music on my own hardware while watching the floor fill more and more was an absolutely incredible experience for me and i’m super thankful for all the massive support and positive feedback i’ve gotten from all of you

i especially want to thank everyone at @notexist_e.v for having trust in my skill even without anything to show for it. for continuously creating opportunities to make experiments like this happen in the first place. and for being focussed on the community as a whole — creating worthwhile experiences for artists AND visitors

just give me a challenge and a deadline and i’ll find a way
