This used to be a private Instagram account. I realize that’s currently impractical. Welcome, I guess!

POSTS STORIES REELS

The way we gauge excellence in acting is often tied up with how a single language is spoken on stage. 🎭

For their tremendous synchronicity and putting their hearts on the line in telling a powerful story, and for being an exemplary ensemble, the judges have awarded a Special Citation #ObieAward to Ryan J. Haddad, Dickie Hearts, and Alejandra Ospina for Dark Disabled Stories. by @superaleja

What a beautiful set at @ryanjhaddad’s GOOD TIME CHARLIE. So proud and glad to witness this achievement tonight.

[Photo of a stage arranged like an outdoor garden, with tall grasses, leafy plants, flowers, and pink-feathered ornamental grasses lining the back and sides. Four columns frame the space, and a bright red Japanese-style torii gate stands toward the back left. A metal bench sits on the left, while a matching table and chairs and a small serving cart sit on the right. Warm pink and white theatrical lights illuminate the set against a black backdrop.] by @superaleja

Hello, Monday. If you don't have a cat curled up on your desk while working, you can borrow this one.

It’s the end of SqueakyFest season…

Projected sign on a blue background with white and yellow text reads:

Attending tonight’s sensory-friendly performance of ROMEO & JULIET at @publictheaterny Shakespeare in the Park (and hoping we don’t get rained on).

With big thanks to @actionplayarts!

Knicks. In. Five.

Almost showtime for for the Access by Design/The Future of Access panel discussions at the new @axisprojectnyc location.

Glad to be able to witness Daniel Radcliffe inhabiting @brilliantbway nearly at the end of his run, but undoubtedly making it uniquely his own every time.

We just have to be kind.

I'm sharing for International Wheelchair Day (also the annual Disability Day of Mourning).

This was first a Facebook post I wrote in 2013.

It was later published in the now retired Geez Magazine: Disability and Ableism, Issue 33, Spring 2014.

It's still an accurate reflection of my relationship with wheelchairs.

(First image is Facebook screenshot from 2013 post, second is a blurry photo of the printed page in Geez Magazine)

Text reads:

A wheelchair is a wheelchair... except when it isn't.

It's a familiar thing, a companion. Something I have never lived without. I don't tend to name things, but each has had distinct personalities and vibes.

Here, then, my "old" wheelchair, back with me for a weekend. I'm lucky to have access to it, still. It was the best thing that ever happened to me in the spring of 2004, my first motorized mobility, and in many ways, it still is. Sure, the newer wheelchair is bigger, faster, more supportive and I daresay sexier, but my muscle memory knows this one so well.

Because you don't just sit in a wheelchair, even the most comfortable ones. You're always moving together, even in minuscule amounts, even when you can't move. And when you can, when your body is a bit of a jerky thing, it becomes even more of a shared ride.

After a while you know all its creaks and quirks, where to lay a hand, elbow or finger to make it go where you want, to make YOU go where you want. How to hold your feet. How to lean, how that crack in the sidewalk will feel, how to hit that threshold. How to carry things just so. How to weave through the crowds just right.

You've taken it everywhere, even places it shouldn't perhaps go. You know how it felt before it could tilt, and after (even though this one doesn't tilt and drive); remember how it lost that cap, or got that scratch, or bent that screw. You know it because it's part of you, and you soon get back into a rhythm that was once 7 years old, now almost 10, and hope it will hold up a bit longer, so it can keep being something to come home to, if you need to come home. by @superaleja

A series of four screenshots with text that reads:

Just some reminders for anyone who posts things on Instagram and expects those things to also cross-post to a Facebook account (especially for professional purposes) — from a non-expert but regular user of both:
Sometimes, cross-posting just doesn't work correctly, so make sure your Instagram post actually made it over to Facebook.
(You can also cross-post from Facebook to Instagram, but this doesn't seem to happen as often.)
If your post does make it over from Instagram to Facebook as expected:
Remember that these are different platforms, and that your posts should differ slightly to match. This means you should probably go in and edit the Facebook version of a post so that:
🔗 Your post doesn't just say LINK IN BIO like it does on Instagram — that doesn't make sense on Facebook, where you can just include the relevant link in your post
📖 The Facebook version of your post shouldn't rely on whatever is in your STORIES — Facebook and Instagram both have a story feature now, but they're not always synced up or easy to get to (never mind actually accessible), and most important, stories expire on both platforms.

Most of my relationship with Alice, particularly our working relationship in the last five years, was remote.

But we did get to meet once in October of 2017, which she happily documented, described and shared at the time.

As posted and described on Facebook by Alice Wong:

Sooooo thrilled that I got to meet Alejandra Ospina for the first time in person during her visit to the SF Bay Area earlier this week. Thanks to Jim LeBrecht for taking this photo for us!

Image description: On the left is an Asian American woman in a black wheelchair and wearing a lime green jacket. She has black hair and is wearing a mask over her nose with a tube connected to a Bi-Pap machine. She has her hand on the arm of another wheelchair user next to her, a Latin American woman with short dark hair, sitting in a black wheelchair, wearing a light gray dress with short sleeves, and glasses. She is leaning over and smiling. by @superaleja
