POSTS STORIES REELS TAGGED

Thirty years ago, three Dominican-American kids from 163rd St & Broadway in Washington Heights, NYC embarked on a mission fueled by our hustle and love for Hip-hop.

We believed our voices and message could reach beyond the blocks that raised us. Along the way, life took us in many different directions, and our story remained untold.

Thirty years later… it’s About Time!

This is RAW96.

On this day 20 years ago, August 30, 2004, the Latin and Urban music landscape changed forever with Def Jam’s release of “Oye Mi Canto.” The track soared to #12 on the Billboard Hot 100 and dominated genres like tropical, urban, pop, and more, reshaping radio and opening countless opportunities for us all.

Nore didn’t create reggaeton, but he brought it to America, opening a door that has generated billions of dollars for artists, producers, labels, and brands over the past two decades. You ain’t gotta like it, but you got to respect it. 💯

Try to imagine me, a young 🇩🇴 Creative Director from Uptown Washington Heights, pitching the power of Latin global influence. It was no easy feat, so I have to thank @therealnoreaga for giving me the opportunity and acknowledgment. 🏆

Shout out to: @spkilla99 @bigmato @ninaskyofficial @daddyyankee and everyone involved in making history.

Looking forward to the next 20.

Pa’lante como un 🐘!!!

THE BRK-THRU was born through our mentorship work in the schools.

Working directly with students made us realize how important it was to create something that celebrates Latino voices, reflects our culture, and gives the next generation something they can see themselves in.

We’re proud to have launched THE BRK-THRU independently during Hispanic Heritage Month, and grateful to every guest who trusted us with their story and helped bring the series to life.

Thank you again @mediahighschool for believing in us, and to our production team, partners, and everyone who helped make this possible.

Laura Stylez grew up in Los Angeles in a Guatemalan household, searching for community, independence, and a life that felt different from the one she knew at home.

She found that sense of belonging in hip-hop. After trying everything from breaking to rapping to graffiti, she realized her place was behind the microphone.

At just 16, she talked her way into a local radio station, got on the air, and proved to herself that she belonged there.

Sometimes a Brk-Thru begins with believing you’re ready before anyone else does.

What started with an invitation to the @mediahighschool at the George Washington High School campus turned into meeting Principal Russo, volunteering with the students, and eventually developing THE BRK-THRU Academy. To now launch THE BRK-THRU docu-series during Hispanic Heritage Month and have our journey highlighted by PIX11 has been incredible!

Thank you to @iamvictory44, PIX11, the school, our students, @ricardo.monteroh our team @kanessat and everyone who helped bring this vision to life. We’re just getting started 🎬

Keep watching.
Keep believing.
Keep breaking through.

Before he was a poet, he became a reader in jail.

Growing up between Park Slope, Sunset Park, and Red Hook, Lemon Anderson struggled with identity, poverty, and losing his parents at a young age.

In jail, he taught himself to read, one page at a time. He found stories that spoke to his life. And that’s where his own story began to change.

Lemon Anderson.

In this BRK-THRU, The Kid Mero talks about a pivotal early moment when @wale brought him into the room, introduced him to @realcoleworld, and a single question shifted how he saw himself. It's not just about being there; it's about recognizing your own worth.

Before the world knew Dascha Polanco as the powerhouse actress we know today, she was a Dominican-born girl raised in Brooklyn, watching her parents build a life through sacrifice, hustle, and resilience.

Those experiences shaped the strength and determination she carried into Hollywood.

Rawcotiks was born during the golden era of hip-hop. It wasn’t just music, it was a way of life, and we had something to say! This was our first record, but we were still hustling, so nobody really got to see us. Now, 30 years later, the world has changed, but our message remains the same:

“Rap is something you do.

Hip-hop is something you live!!!”
