SUPR OMEN presents for Risking Boredom, a one-off Halloween performance on October 31.

Holly Sass will be facilitating a gathering of around 10 performers of various mediums (clown, dance, acting, sound) for an improvised show.

They’ll meet the day before and the day of the show to scheme, play, and find some anchors, and then they will try, in front of you, with you. Some of them know each other, some of them don’t. It’s possible one of them has never been on stage before. There will be opportunities for the audience to help shape the arc. The performers don’t know what will happen but maybe you do.

Show begins at 7pm with runtime about an hour.

Proceeds will go directly to supporting our friend Mahmoud’s family in Gaza, who continues to suffer from Israel’s genocidal oppression. Family members have recently been attacked and need urgent medical care. The financial support needed is constant, this fundraiser serves as the tip of the iceberg. Chloe presents SCRIM, created with collaboration from dancers Charlotte Aucella, Caroline Frank, and Bree Kostelnik. Featuring live sound by Jude Icarus.

About the Curators/Artists

Chloe Sonnet Brown (she/they) is a dancer, choreographer, and producer based in New York City.. Chloe was a company dancer with Spectrum Dance Theatre from 2021-2023, where she performed new and revival works by Donald Byrd. In New York City, Chloe has performed for Mark Bankin, Elena Dahn, Sarah Yasmine Marazzi Sassoon, and more.

Chloe’s choreography has appeared at Westbeth Dance Festival, Counterpointe 11, A Space Gallery, Angel Visits at St. John The Divine, Greenspace, Ancient Lakes Dance Festival, and in a gallery showing in Jeff Fan’s apartment.Chloe curates and produces site-specific performances through Body Artifacts. So far, Chloe has produced sold-out performances in the chapel of St. John the Divine and the halfpipe of Substance Skatepark.

Frances Heintzelman is a New York City-based choreographer, curator, dancer, and administrator from Indiana. Her choreography has been shown at Movement Research, Arts on Site, Creature Space, Symphony Space, the Athenaeum Theatre (Chicago, IL), and the Eskenazi School of Architecture (Bloomington, IN).

She has worked administratively for The Museum of Modern Art, PERFORMA, Movement Research, The Bates Dance Festival, and more. She is currently co-curating PITCH at SUPR OMEN. by @supr_omen

We’re joining forces with the analog visual benders, @telepathy.nyc for a Trippy Halloween Karaoke party. If you’ve ever been to a Telepathy Karaoke Party, you know the drill. The words on the screen may or may not be legible.

Will there be a prize for best costume? Unclear.
Will there be a cash donation based bar? Most certainly.

We ran this as a single-day workshop in the spring, and it was so amazing that we are breaking it out into multi-days...I promise you will have an amazing time...where else will you write a poem from the perspective OF a funnel?

We will use the concept of “affordances” (action possibilities) to explore the world of everyday objects. Over the three sessions, we’ll map their action possibilities and decode their material intelligence through movement, write narratives and have conversations from THEIR perspective, find ways of “becoming” our objects, and eventually bring them all together through group sculpture and discussion.

We recently sat down with Frances Rose Heintzelman and Chloe Sonnet Brown to chat about their experience working on season II of our PITCH emerging curator program, and learn about their upcoming performances on October 22nd, for this years close-out event for PITCH.
