First of all, I’m so grateful to have finished the incredibly tough M2O this year.
This was my 14th M2O (and my 6th Foil M2O), but not a single one has ever had the same conditions.
Every year is different. The forecast is never guaranteed to be right.
The channel always shows a different face.
Over the 60 km crossing, it changes its mood many times — sometimes smiling, sometimes showing its harsh side.
This year was one of the lightest wind M2Os and had some of the smallest swells I can remember.
Many times during the race, the thought of giving up crossed my mind, but somehow I managed to make it to the finish.
I heard that many competitors had to retire this year.
Out of my 14 M2Os, I also had one DNF a few years ago in the Foil division.
That time, the finish line looked unbelievably far away.
I was disappointed and even thought I would never come back again.
But I returned the following year, and when I crossed the finish line, the feeling was many times greater than ever before.
Next year might bring the same conditions, or maybe it could be the best conditions ever.
No matter what the result is, I think M2O is a race that makes you want to come back again.

This year, I was fortunate enough to win my age division at M2O and also win the Triple Crown age div.

Of course, winning feels amazing, but what I always feel at M2O is that results are not everything.
Everyone who spends a year preparing to stand on that starting line, everyone who reaches the finish line, and everyone who makes the difficult decision to retire — every one of them is a true M2O athlete.

M2O is a special place.
That’s why I keep coming back every year.

Alex Aguera came to Japan for the @gofoil 10th Anniversary Promotion Tour — his first visit back to Japan in over 30 years since the windsurfing world events that used to be held in Omaezaki!

We were blessed with amazing conditions everywhere we went — Miura, Kamakura, Koshienhama, Lake Biwa, and Omaezaki — and had such an incredible time together!
