Welcome to Surena Design, where creativity met courage, and I built a second act for my life from the ground up.

🌸 So how did I end up here, surrounded by flowers and color, when I used to live in a world of code and deadlines?
Well… that’s a loooong story.

I spent years as a programmer, logical, structured, predictable.
At 35, I went back for my MBA because I thought success meant climbing the next ladder.
At 39, my world changed again, I became a mom.

A week before my son was born, I lost my dad.
The timing broke me open in ways I still can’t fully explain.

🌸 I decided to pause everything.
I stayed home, raised my baby, and tried to make sense of this new version of life. Then COVID hit… and that pause turned into years.

But somewhere in that stillness, something started to bloom.

🌸 In 2021, when I was about to turn 45, I decided to follow my heart and start my own floral and décor adventure.
I had only $1,500 to spare, no connections, and no roadmap, just a deep belief that I could turn beauty into purpose. I reached out to planners, venues, and vendors… and heard no or simply got ignored more times than I could count.

And then, one day, someone said yes. That yes lit the path I’m still walking today. 🌿

🌸 I’m picky about the weddings I take because I pour my soul into every petal, every color palette, every table design.
It was never about the money, it was about creating beauty, connection, and joy in the middle of uncertainty.

🌸 If my story tells you anything, it’s that it’s never too late to start over.
To reinvent yourself.
To build something beautiful from everything that once fell apart.

We are all part of one algorithm so be that first “yes” to a startup. It makes a world of difference!

Here’s to blooming in your own time. 🌸

For venues this considered, the florals should feel like they grew there.
Late April at The Umstead. The red roses were already blooming in the landscape. So we did not add more color. We edited.

Ivory garden roses, blush ranunculus, white stock. Matte white plinths, no shine. Low aisle pieces so the pond stayed the focal point.

The brief was not “more flowers”.
The brief was “make it look inevitable”.

That is restraint. That is what photographs well in ten years.

Garden party energy from start to finish at JC Raulston Arboretum. These two kicked things off with their first dance right after the ceremony and honestly… every wedding should consider stealing this idea. The morning light, the dreamy garden florals, and the sweetest dance surrounded by everyone they love made the whole day feel straight out of a storybook.
If you’re planning a garden wedding in Raleigh NC, a morning ceremony at the arboretum is pure magic. ❤️
