You know that feeling when a wave is exactly what you imagined it would be?

That moment when you’re sitting on the boat, heart pounding, watching a perfect set roll through — and you think: this is actually real.

-> That’s the Mentawai. Every single session.

It’s a little intimidating at first. The reef is shallow, the waves are powerful, and you’re far from everything familiar.

But that’s exactly what makes it so rewarding.

You push past your comfort zone, you surf the best waves of your life, and somewhere between the morning sessions and the evenings on the boat, something shifts.

The group chemistry on these trips is something we can’t fully explain until you experience it. Strangers on day one, brothers and sisters by day five. Laughing between sets, cheering each other into bombs, sharing the kind of moments that don’t happen at home.

We did our first group trip to the Mentawai last October. We’re already planning the next one.

This is what a surf retreat can do for your surfing.

The first few days are tough for beginners. Sore arms, wobbly pop ups, soreness from paddling. But if you keep showing up, it just clicks.

We love watching our surfers progress like that over the week.

Some surfers show up on day one already knowing how to surf, just with a few habits that need fixing.

Then throughout the week, as you catch more waves, each one becomes a chance to work on something, with our coaches breaking down the technique until it actually clicks.

Charlie had an amazing progression throughout the week. Long waves like this change everything. You’ve got time to think ahead, time to actually feel what you’re doing wrong or right, instead of just reacting.
