We are excited for you to see this exhibit, " Water Rocks" by Dennis Kugizaki on our west wall.

"When I was in kindergarten, the teacher told my dad that I was artistic because I could draw a smaller circle than any of the other kids. I guess she was right. I became strongly interested in art and earned a degree in Drawing and Painting from the University of California at Long Beach. Whether in my technical illustration, graphic design, woodworking or fine art, I’ve often utilized 3D design and the illusion of dimensionality. My drawing, painting, and photography demonstrate how highlights and shadows can give 2-D objects the 3rd dimension.

I’m also drawn to surrealism. My art often does not depict reality, but visions from my imagination. Moving to Colorado further opened my eyes to the beauty of basic elements, like water -- streams, rivers, waterfalls, snow and rain – and rocks, of every shape size and color. Being a woodworker, I have hand shaped the rocks from wood scraps and then painted them to look like real rocks. So therefore, my theme is Water Rocks. Please enjoy the visions I have put on canvas." - Dennis Kugizaki by @surfacegallerycos

Surface Gallery presents Abstract Notions by Maggie Rose MacIndoe.

Abstract Notions takes its name from the idea that abstract art is built from a person’s impressions, curiosities, and perceptions-the notions that shape how we see. This collection began with a request from the artist’s daughter for a lighter, more neutral, minimalist piece, and grew into a sustained exploration that same quiet energy. The paintings invite viewers into a space of imagination and reflection, each piece may serve as a personal mirror.

Maggie Rose MacIndoe is an abstract expressionist and intuitive artist with over 25 years of study and creative exploration. Working in textured acrylic, Maggie draws on nature, movement, and the rhythms of the natural world to create layered expressive works. Maggie’s paintings have been exhibited in Chelsea, New York City and throughout southeastern Colorado.

Maggie has exhibited in New York City, and southeastern Colorado; including La Veta, Trinidad, Pueblo, and Denver. In Colorado Springs, she has shown her art at Cottonwood Center for the Arts, Bridge Gallery, Academy Art & Frame, Miriam’s Place and Cheyenne Mountain Library. by @surfacegallerycos

We are excited for you to see this father-son exhibit. Fran Bires is a photographer and his son Ben is a painter. Together they collaborated on this special show.

This exhibition shows how two artists see the same subject in different ways, portraying wildlife and natural bokeh through photography and painting. “Bokeh” comes from the Japanese word for “blur” or “haze” and describes the soft, out-of-focus quality in a photograph. Each artist interprets the technique in his own medium, making a statement about how artists represent the natural world. by @surfacegallerycos
