happy fourth of july!

for this year’s holiday—while sharing a couple highlights from our first few weeks of surf camp—BADASS SURF SCHOOL wants to remind LOS ANGELES that we are here for ALL americans, and will fight for what’s right for this country.

we believe in showing up for our community, especially when our systems won’t right now.

we see the tension, the silence, the displacement happening, and are here to rise together with our city.

we know the importance of family, and will always do our part to keep families together, and to bond yours with ours.

we know that everyone deserves access and assistance to support and care, no questions, no conditions.

we strive for equity and justice, and expect nobody to fit into any sort of mold.

and we will never stay silent. we will be louder than the name BADASS SURF SCHOOL when it comes to speaking up for you.

100% inclusive isn’t a marketing term. it’s the very phrase that encompasses the values that make BADASS SURF SCHOOL proud to serve our beloved VENICE & LOS ANGELES, CA in more ways than just by surfing.

it was all stoke for week 2 with the large midweek swell. we get this a lot: “how do you guys handle it when the surf’s too big?” when we teach and run camp at LA’s premier beach break, we have all types of options from the playful inside to the energetic outside. we *know* this wave—what do you think all these surf reports are for?!

i chose to do this special breakwater report to share my thoughts black people in the united states deserve more than what they have been given. these were people who were kidnapped by our ancestors and built this country’s economy on their free and forced labor.

practices, from redlining voting districts to diminish black voting power, to zoning their living spaces away from banks, to the war on drugs, to our representatives coalitioning the voting rights act of 1965 in certain states in 2026—black people in this country deserve better.

i aim to use my surf school to fight systemic equity at our beaches, and will be launching a nonprofit soon in order to expedite this mission.
