1 Year, 2 Months and 24 days after a life changing event I’ve returned to the slopes. Totally blessed to be alive and able to travel and ski. Every day is a true gift. Exactly 7 months to the day after my car accident I returned to the water with a proper surf session. I did feel a bit like Nemo with my gimpy arm. But, I made it. My thanks to @unchealth for the great doctors and staff that put me back together with lots of new and slightly used parts. My thanks to all that are on Donor Lists and allow their tragedies to bring life and hope to others. A few days after the accident one of the doctors asked me my goal for recovery. I said to get back in the water. I can’t thank @unchealth , my PT therapists and occupational therapists enough. Thanks to @tj_ralph @birdsurfboards @sfla_surf slavetothewave and papa tuss for getting me in super small waves last week to build my confidence. I can’t say it’s been an easy 7 months, but to be back in the water sooo soon is another gift. 🙏 My thanks to all for your concern, support and prayers. #TSAlex #blessed #stoked #surf #surflife taken in Holden Beach Fishing Pier by @surffla

Three weeks ago I was in a serious car accident. Thankfully, I was alone in my car and no other vehicle was involved. I have been blessed by the first responders, whom I have not yet contacted, but saved my life. I am blessed to be under the care of the plastics and ortho teams at @unchealth @ @uncchapelhill. I am thankful for the nurses and staff in 5bedtower who are helping to ease all the challenges. I am truly thankful for those that have come to visit me and all of those that sent flowers, food and goodwill. It is going to be a long road to get back in the water and back on the slopes. 🏄🏾‍♂️ ⛷🏂 But, I feel mentally prepared to do all I need to make that happen and also to be independent when I return home.
