🚨 ACTION ALERT: CONTACT YOUR ASSEMBLY-MEMBER TO PROTECT CALIFORNIA’S COAST AGAINST NEW OFFSHORE DRILLING 🚨

California has a critical opportunity to defend itself from new offshore drilling from Sacramento this week.

AB 1448 (Hart) closes the loophole that currently allows oil and gas companies to use existing infrastructure to support new drilling leases, strengthening California’s protections against the federal threat of new offshore drilling.

California’s legislative session is quickly coming to a close — and we need YOUR help to get AB 1448 across the finish line.

AB 1448 passed the Senate today, and is heading back to the Assembly for a concurrence vote.

Contact your Assembly member today, telling them to vote YES on AB 1448. It only takes 1 minute to use your voice to protect the future of California’s coasts and 🌊✊ Link in bio! taken in California by @surfriderla

The Surfrider Foundation stands for one ocean for all people.

We reject bigotry and cruelty and are committed to standing with our volunteers, staff, partners, and the communities we serve. We stand for equality, dignity, and safety for all.

Sadly, in this current moment, detestable actions are striking fear in our communities. We are witnessing the deterioration of our fundamental rights, including freedom of speech, freedom of assembly, and the right to due process. These rights are essential to a healthy democracy and necessary to achieve Surfrider’s mission.

Surfrider’s strength comes from our nationwide network of volunteer-led chapters and student clubs. We are a community-based, people-powered movement that fights for a safe, healthy, and welcoming coastal environment. We build community, care for our coasts, and advocate for positive change.

America is a nation born of immigrants, strengthened by its diversity. While imperfect, the ideal of America stands for liberty, freedom, and opportunity for all. It is incumbent on everyone to ensure those values are pursued and protected. In the long arc of progress, we know that our shared struggle for environmental justice and rights for all people will prevail.

Our third annual Concrete Queenz x Surfrider LA One Watershed event brought youth from South LA to the beach for a day of surfing, connection, and community. 🌊💙

For many participants, it was their first time in the ocean. It was incredible to watch them build confidence, try something new, and experience the beach as a place where they belong.

Thank you to @concretequeenz and @aquasurfschool for helping us create more opportunities for youth from inner-city communities to access the ocean and connect with their local watershed. And thank you to our amazing @surfriderla volunteers, who show up and make days like this possible. 🤙

Thanks to our Blue Water Task Force volunteers for grabbing samples this week!

All results came back green 💚

Special thanks to @ericjacobsen308 for all your help and your beautiful photos. Good luck on your new adventures.

Reminder that the BWTF results represent a snapshot in time. Water quality can change quickly based on tides, weather, runoff, and other environmental conditions. Community science like this helps, but it is just one piece of the puzzle.

If you’re interested in keeping the ocean and beaches clean, become a memeber today by donating to Surfrider Los Angeles. Join us in our efforts to protect the surf and the sand 🌊 Link in bio.

Making waves to heal our planet 🌊💙

In celebration of our 30th anniversary, we returned to Malibu, where our story first began, to give back to the place that has inspired us from day one.

Together with @surfriderla , @camberplaces, and our incredible community, we spent the morning cleaning the coastline and caring for one of our most precious resources.

Thank you so much to everyone who showed up and gave back.

10/1 Update: Governor Newsom signed 3 (AB 1448, AB 762, & SB 1268) and vetoed 1 (AB 2253) of the remaining four bills. Thank you to everyone who took action to get those bills across the finish line.

•••
🚨 TAKE ACTION! Tell Governor Newsom: Sign Bills to Protect the Coast!

Eight of Surfrider California’s priority bills have made it through both chambers and landed on the Governor’s desk. Governor Newsom has signed three (yay!) and vetoed one (boo!), leaving four bills still awaiting action.

The Legislature did its part. Now it’s time for the Governor to act.

The remaining bills would:
🛢️help prevent new offshore oil drilling
 🚬 reduce disposable vape pollution
♻️ improve recycling labels
🏕️ & promote equitable outdoor access

Tell Governor Newsom to sign these bills into law and protect our coasts and oceans! Take action now - link in bio. by @surfriderla

Our 3rd Annual Concrete Queenz x @surfriderla One Water Shed x @aquasurfschool 🌊🩷

This is always one of our most favorite days of the year. This collab brought our girls from South LA to the beach for a day of surfing and community. Many of them were getting in the ocean for the very first time....and THEY DID AMAZING!!

Grateful to our partners for helping us create more opportunities for girls to get outside and have access to get in the water.

Here’s to getting more girls in the ocean!! 🩷

Thank you to @GoodOmenPictures & @FrankieGarces for being there and for the edit 🩷

🔴 It’s best to stay out of the water at Pico Kenter Storm Drain/Inkwell. It tested very high.
