It’s difficult to believe it’s been 25 years since September 11, 2001. This image is the one that stays with me the most from that day, a somber reminder of everyone who felt the loss of so many lives.

On the 10th anniversary I photographed him once again sitting alone in Zuccotti Park. Today I thought he was gone. After a brief search I found “Double Check,” a 1982 bronze sculpture by Seward Johnson, who was surprisingly moved to the corner of Liberty and Broadway. by @susanmeiselas

Yesterday I went to The Donald J. Trump and Jeffrey Epstein Memorial Reading Room in Tribeca — an innovative pop up exhibit for the public to visualize the scale of the Epstein Files presenting evidence in 3.5 million pages! The Institute for Primary Facts (IPF) has created a space to honor those who have spoken out as victims and survivors to inspire greater public awareness and engagement.

“How long must these survivors and victims wait for justice?”

Celebrating Earth Day by remembering an early visit to Momotombo Volcano in Nicaragua. It is still active, spitting out toxic gases and steam during its most recent eruption in 2016 after over 100 years of dormancy.

Dreaming to be in the USA and now facing deportation, everyday lives are ruptured as many of us watch and whistle to protect and protest across the country.

This image is part of the @magnumphotos Square Print Sale: Odyssey is on until Sunday, March 29. Odyssey is a journey — across landscapes, through time, and within ourselves. This sale traces moments of passage: the road taken, the crossing of borders, and the pull of the unknown.

Today is the ‘Day of Remembrance for Truth and Justice’ which marks the anniversary of the coup d’etat that launched the dictatorship in Argentina. I still remember being with Adolfo Pérez Esquivel and ‘las madres’ in Buenos Aires as they marched around the Plaza de Mayo, a weekly ritual that continues 50 year later.

Nobel Peace Prize winner Adolfo Perez Esquivel (center), surrounded by mothers of the “disappeared,” demonstrates with the Madres of the Plaza de Mayo. Once ignored by the government, the Madres are now widely supported in their demands for truth and justice for the disappeared, Buenos Aires, Argentina, 1981. taken in Buenos Aires, Argentina by @susanmeiselas

I just returned from a short visit as Trump threatens to ‘take’ Cuba. The US oil blockade now forces rationing and has reduced tourism. Meanwhile everyday life goes on, the future is on hold. Negotiations for ‘regime compliance’ begins. The world waits and watches. by @susanmeiselas

A ghost from the past—Remembering when Eugene Hasenfus, a former Marine was caught in a covert mission sponsored by the C.I.A. In 1986, he was shot down over Nicaragua while dropping arms to the Contras, the right-wing rebel forces attempting to overthrow the Sandinistas.

It’s exciting to see ‘44 Irving Street’ on view for the first time in New York City at Higher Pictures Gallery (@higherpicturesgeneration) now through July 18th, 2025!

I took my first photography course while pursuing a masters at Harvard Graduate School of Education. For my class project, I made a 4x5 portrait of each of my neighbors in the boarding house where I lived, posed in a spot of their choosing at home. When I gave each one their print I asked them to write about how they saw themselves in the picture. More often than not, their words told a tale that the images alone did not relay.

An accompanying book published with TBW Books is also forthcoming and will be available at the opening night (date to be announced soon!). Thank you to Higher Pictures for bringing this all together!

After a 6 year long legal fight by Tamara Lanier, Harvard University has agreed to relinquish the ownership of two slave portraits of her distant ancestors Renty and Delia to the International African American Museum in Charleston, South Carolina. The two 175-year-old daguerreotypes were taken by former Harvard Professor Louis Agassiz to be used as evidence of Black racial inferiority. Susanna and Marian Moore, descendants of Agassiz, also joined Lanier in calling for Harvard to repatriate the photos.
