Vinnie season is winding down, although we have one more outing planned in a couple of weeks.

A few weekends ago we headed to a spot we attempted to stay at this summer but it was so foggy you couldn’t see 2 feet in front of you.

The trailhead of the Cape Broyle Head Trail on the Calvert side. What a spot!

No fog this time so we were gifted with fantastic views.

We hiked about 5k in on the trail, a pretty big climb up to the top of the head, where we were once again treated to an amazing view south towards Ferryland. A perfect spot for our favourite part of hiking
 lunch.

We are definitely going to add this place to our list to visit again. by @susansalignedlife

The goal was to find somewhere near the ocean to watch the sunset.

Bonus was the full moon.

A great night in Port de Grave last weekend. taken in Port de Grave, Newfoundland and Labrador by @susansalignedlife

Part two of our vacation we explored Little Bay and area. Little Bay is close to Springdale and has a history in mining.

Another sweet community campground on the beach. Unfortunately the weather wasn’t that sweet so we didn’t get to explore the beach as much as we would have liked or go kayaking.

We did however do the El Dorado Trail that took us through abandoned mine sites and infrastructure. I wouldn’t say this was a pretty hike but it was very interesting.

Also a bit eerie to be honest. To see how the land has not recovered over 100 years after the mine shut down
 it’s really striking and sad.

The last couple of days of our vacation took us back to Exploits Island with family. It’s one of our favourite places to visit in the summer. Again the weather wasn’t great but spending time with family in this beautiful setting made up for it. by @susansalignedlife

Goal: visit every community on the island of Newfoundland.

It’s probably the main reason for buying Vinnie. And what a joy it’s been so far.

Our latest trip took us to the east side of the Baie Verte Peninsula, from Middle Arm to La Scie and all the towns in between.

Small community run campgrounds seem to becoming a thing and we support this initiative.
Both Middle Arm and La Scie had sweet spots for us to camp with electric and water hook-up and fantastic views for about $20-$30.

On top of our goal to see every community we want to support them financially if we can so if there’s a campground, we will stay there.

We also got a chance to do the Alexander Murray Hiking Trail in King’s Point after the was closed last year because of the dry conditions and high forest fire risk. It was 10/10, highly recommended! by @susansalignedlife

July came in with a bang.

Celebrated our 10th wedding anniversary and my mom’s 80th birthday in Tilting and Lewisporte.

It was a week of family, food and lots of time doing what we love
spending time outside in good weather.

So happy that my sister Joanne and BIL Darren were able to come home, sad their kids couldn’t but that’s the life of teens and summer jobs

I’d say too blessed to be stressed but truthfully there were moments, lol. But I am beyond grateful for my family. by @susansalignedlife

I’ve decided I equally love boondocking and park camping. I guess the common denominator is being out in nature, waking up in the trees or near the water, hearing the wildlife. All the things that feel like summer to me.

Spent a couple of nights in Newman Sound campground in Terra Nova National Park before meeting family on Fogo Island for birthday and anniversary celebrations.

We hiked the coastal path from the campground to the park visitor’s centre. A beautiful walk along the shoreline with multiple beaches. It was a hot day but we found some shade and a breeze for our lunch spot. taken in Newman Sound Campground, Terra Nova Park by @susansalignedlife

Did you know

That the most southern town and point in Newfoundland is on the Avalon Peninsula? I did not, I just assumed it was the Burin Peninsula as that always felt more southerly to me.

This weekend we went there. St. Shott’s
a small town at the end of a bumpy road.

(After visiting some remote, small towns over the last year I’m convinced that the NL government is trying to force people out by letting their roads fall apart, it’s terrible. Resettlement without having to pay for it.)

I hope St. Shott’s and all these smaller towns are always there. What a beautiful place and area of the province. I love the whole Irish Loop. The views are so vast and all the towns are so neat and clean.

We spent the night at the end of town, next to the fog horn, which luckily we didn’t have to worry about because the weather was lovely.

On Sunday morning we did a trail run on the trail from the fog horn to the lighthouse at Cape Pine. We got off track a bit, the trail’s a little hard to follow in places, but you won’t get lost.

We stumbled upon some building ruins and come to find out after that it’s the most southerly point in NL, pretty cool.

If you’re doing the Irish Loop, make the turn to go down to St. Shott’s for a look and maybe a hike, you won’t regret it! by @susansalignedlife

For our first outing of the season in ‘Vinnie Van Gogh’ we headed to the Heart’s Content Lighthouse.

We had lunch there last year and did a little of the D’Iberville trail and said that we wanted to come back.

It was a rainy and windy Saturday night but we were cozy in the van. Sunday was nicer, actually perfect conditions for a trail run. Roger’s training for the Tely and I’m trying to ramp up my running again (I’m away Tely weekend so I’m not running it) so we decided to run the trail instead of walk.

It’s a really nice trail under foot. A good section is in the woods but then you break out to big vistas, the best of both worlds. Highly recommend it.

Despite the weather it was a great start to van season. We didn’t forget much, we fell into our usual routine and dance in a small space, and we didn’t run out of water like we did on our first outing last year! All in all, 10/10. by @susansalignedlife

Life at home is good but definitely not as exciting as being on vacation!

Last New Zealand / Bora Bora post with some randoms that didn’t make the first few posts.

1: Always an o’dark early flight out of YYT. It sucks to get up in the middle of the night but an early flight usually means less chance of delays.

2: The Fogo Island Inn spotted on a Quantas flight makes the world feel quite small. On an Air NZ flight I had a grand chat with a lady from NZ about our mutual love for Louise Penny, Three Pines and Armand Gamache ;-)

3-4: A couple of randoms from Auckland.

5: Spotted in Abel Tasman National Park. No worries, you wouldn’t have to tell me twice to go to higher ground.

6: Kayaks getting a ride in Abel Tasman.

7: I wonder what’s behind that door in Wellington.

8-9: Pretty Martinborough in wine country on the North Island

10: Flower stands, yes please.

11-12: Taupo McDonalds, weird but cool! Ironman sign - which happened in Taupo the day after we left, inspiring and cool.

13-14: Yet another pretty NZ town, Cambridge.

15: Devonport, a suburb of Auckland that is worth the visit.

16-19: Randoms at the Westin Bora Bora. Tahitian wine that I loved!

20: Sydney Australia. We’re not in New Zealand with its ‘no deadly animals’ anymore. by @susansalignedlife
