Came across these old photos of my painting desk from a few years ago.

I'm still painting at the same desk, with the same beautiful view (except that little pink house has now been demolished 😫). And my desk is still just as messy and full of colors!

I remember being frustrated with some of these paintings at the time. (Two of them went straight into the recycling bin afterward! 🤦🏽🗑️). But looking at them now, I can appreciate all the experimenting and learning that was happening along the way.

Do you also find yourself looking at your own work differently after a while?

A lot has changed over the years, but I'm still painting, experimenting, making a mess and trying again. And there are still plenty of paintings that don't turn out the way I want them to. 😄

Makes me wonder how I'll look at the paintings I'm working on today when I come back to them a few years from now. ❤️

I had a lovely time sketching with @uskluxembourg at the studio of artist Wil Lofy, @lofys_place last Saturday.

It's such a charming place, full of interesting sculptures and stories, with so much old-world charm. And it's tucked away right in the middle of my favorite part of Luxembourg. And that view from the studio windows! 😍😱

We all found different little corners of the studio to sketch, had some warm tea as it got colder and had a lovely time painting together. ❤️

Yesterday's Paint & Grow live session was all about exploring an autumn palette using just four colors! 🍂

We started by seeing how many colors we could mix with those four, and then spent about 20 minutes painting this wreath together!

I was actually quite surprised by how much we managed to do in such a short time. It's amazing what you can create when you stop worrying about getting everything perfect and just get started!

We have these painting dates every month as part of Paint & Grow, my little membership for Watercolor Floral Sanctuary students, where we continue learning and painting together through monthly tutorials, feedback sessions and live painting dates. 😊

I have a feeling I'm going to discover so many new flowers through the comments on this one 😃.

Tell me where you're from and one flower that grows there that you think the rest of us should know about!

I'll start: I grew up in India, and one of mine would have to be the Parijata ❤️. It's a tiny white flower with a bright orange stalk and the most beautiful fragrance. 🌫️

Can't get over how smooth the paper is!
I still need to experiment with other mediums and I'll let you know how it behaves!
@karstgoods thanks for sending these over for me to try!

I’ve been doing a lot of teaching lately, so it felt really good to sit down and paint just for myself again. 😊

And while painting this, I was thinking about how simple most of these brush strokes actually are.

A tree doesn’t need hundreds of carefully painted leaves. A house doesn’t need every little detail (I still find them quite challenging though). Sometimes it’s just the way you press the brush, change its direction, use the tip or the belly, and place a few marks next to each other.

There’s so much you can do with a brush when you really get to know it!

It’s one thing to learn different watercolor techniques and concepts. It’s another to know when to use them, how to combine them, and still enjoy the process without overthinking every decision.

That’s a big part of what we work on inside Watercolor Floral Sanctuary, my in-depth 8-week watercolor floral course.

Enrollment closes tonight and won’t open again until next year.
Link to join is in my bio!

Hope to see you inside ☺️🎨🎉
