A book I believe everyone might like to read because I bet you haven’t known a lot about how and why kids are immigrating here, or for that matter why grownups are. It’s kind of a travelogue/food tour/coming of age story. Really scary at the end. A true account of how a nine year boy who doesn’t even know how to tie his shoes or shit in a toilet when he starts, gets here from El Salvador unaccompanied by a family member. If most immigrants told this story they’d be deported, but Zamora excelled academically, was rewarded with a fellowship, and asked to write about it. Then he applied for citizenship, which involved self deportation for a year. by @susiestauber
