My grandma was my best friend in the whole entire world. If you knew me, you knew her. What she did, I did. Where she went, I went. What she wore, I wore. It was my grandma and I and that black Mercedes with the pink AKA tag against the world. She wasn’t my day 1, she was my second 1. There aren’t enough words in the dictionary to describe how much I loved her or how it feels to wake up and not see her sitting in her chair, or to know that I will never get another 15 second phone call from her just so she can tell me she loves me. I got to spend 22 of her 89 years with her, trailing behind her, always holding her hand and I know she will be holding mine for the rest of my life. I love you Munu and I will always and forever be your Capricorn twin, your ladybug, your sweetie.🖤 by @suspence.ful

the 2026 Summer Poetry Teachers Institute with the Poetry Foundation was such a dream. i got to spend a week talking about poetry and teaching alongside some pretty incredible people. shoutout to the community college cohort! how many people can say they spent part of their summer in a space with elementary-college educators all ready to add more poetry to their classrooms and find new ways to do it? i learned so much and that’s not even all of my notes!! by @suspence.ful
i think poetry’s fun, and i wanted other people to think so too. i stumbled across a word game called Haikubes—you roll the prompt dice and construct a haiku from the word cubes. i decided to take it and run with it. together we wrote an exquisite corpse (group poem) one die at a time, and we played with a centuries old form, puzzling through 5-7-5. Mind Games is up at Connect Gallery until june 8. if you’re in chicago, there’s room for you to add a line or squeeze in a haiku. by @suspence.ful

i was Co-EIC of Belles Lettres my senior year of high school. the first poem i had published in the magazine i wrote in 4th grade (submitted by my teacher on my behalf), and it was about shrimp cocktail😂 to hold an alumnae issue for the 60th anniversary in my hands and to be included, as well as finding a poem at alumnae weekend from 5th grade in the 2010-2011 issue (the black page), made my year. light and life always💙🦃 by @suspence.ful
