During the final days of our holiday back home, I found the time to revisit and edit the memories captured during our journey through the Netherlands.

These photographs were taken in Blokzijl, a town renowned for its charming harbor and fascinating mix of architectural styles. The historic houses have weathered the passage of time with remarkable grace. Some have been lovingly restored, while others have been rebuilt from the ground up, yet blend seamlessly into the town’s centuries-old character.

The cannon may appear somewhat intimidating at first glance, but fortunately the conflicts of Blokzijl are long gone. Today, it serves a far more peaceful purpose, creating a striking leading line that draws the eye across the harbor.

Blokzijl is well worth a visit. With its picturesque bridges, historic locks, and timeless atmosphere, it is a place where one could spend hours simply admiring the scenery.

Bicycle

Morning Water Reflections

Drawn to the quiet dialogue between light and shadow, I focused on the reflection of the morning sun across the water. The silhouetted trees and dark foreground were left intentionally untouched, allowing shape and atmosphere to take precedence over detail.

For me, scenes like this evoke a timeless sense of calm, reminiscent of moments spent watching the steady flow of a great river, where movement and tranquility exist side by side.

Looking back on our holiday in the Netherlands.

One of our trips led us to Giethoorn, and it truly surprised me. Normally the village is packed with people strolling over the bridges or trying to navigate the boats through the canals.

This time, though, Giethoorn was almost empty. Maybe it was the weather forecast or simply the early hour. Wind and rain greeted us, but they gave the village a calm, almost magical atmosphere 🌧️✨

As a child, I stayed here during a school camp — our accommodation was called Het Kraggenhuis. I recently learned that the building burned down a few years ago and has since been completely rebuilt.

We truly enjoyed our time in my former home country. I’m pleased to share some of my impressions with you 🤍📸
