Hi, I’m Suzanne. I’m so glad you’re here.
.
I’d love to share a bit about myself…

💫 My love of movement has been lifelong.

As a kid, I was climbing trees, jumping off the roof as a spy in training (my parents loved that 😂), and creating performances with family and friends.

I just loved how it felt to move, to express, to play.

That eventually grew into flying through the air as a gymnast, then into the creative expression of dance and later into acting which helped draw me out of my shyness.

Along the way, there were also injuries, setbacks and deeper layers to navigate, physically and emotionally.

That’s what led me to explore different approaches to healing, movement and transformation.

Over time, this all wove together into the way I guide now which is less about performing and more about listening, adapting and finding what feels supportive in your body.

If this sounds like the kind of practice you’ve been craving, you’re invited to join my Fall Somatic Yoga online series.

I love shopping at farmers markets to support my own well-being and local, organic growers and vendors.

Part of the joy is the spirit of community and connecting with wonderful people.

Roadrunner Park Farmers Market has been a blessing all summer long (and they go year round).

Looking forward to Old Town Scottsdale Farmers Market reopening at their new location on Saturday, October 3!

So grateful for the market staff, vendors and shoppers casting their votes with their dollars.

Bon Appétit! 💜

🌿 An Apprentice to Rest 🌿

I’m learning to rest.

It’s something I’ve had a deep knowing about for a long time: I need to push less and rest more.

And yet, I’ve spent much of my life being very good at pushing through.

Looking back, I see a clear pattern of pushing, rushing and overextending.

Competitive gymnastics taught me early that going beyond my limits was required to excel.

Then, for most of my adult life I’ve had multiple businesses and lines of work while also performing in creative projects.

Somewhere along the way, I became very practiced at overriding the signals that said, enough for now...

Have you ever noticed that you’re bringing more effort to something than it actually requires?

Like your fingers pounding away like galloping horses on the keyboard when a light touch will do just fine.

Or washing dishes like it’s an emergency instead of an easy activity.

Does that sound familiar?

It sure does to me.

Years of exhaustion along with recent lab work showing very low cortisol levels have given me another nudge to become an apprentice to rest.

Rest isn’t always about stopping. Sometimes it’s about shifting gears and finding less force, more ease in motion.

And sometimes it really is about taking a break and letting yourself be still.

I’m practicing lying down with my legs on a pile of pillows for a few minutes.

When I’m doing food prep or other tasks, I’m alternating between sitting and standing.

You might experiment with carving out just a couple of minutes for rest, even if you feel you don’t have the time.

I get a kick out of my own little cha-cha-cha of gotta just do one more thing first.

Let yourself let go, breathe and drift. You can simply rest there.

If you prefer, you could ease into a simple meditation.

I’m often surprised by how much even a brief rest gives me.

I emerge feeling more relaxed, refreshed and present, ready to flow into whatever’s next.

Ta ta for now… I’m going to rest 😉

The word “somatic” carries many meanings.
.
For me, it’s about bringing awareness, curiosity and kindness into how we relate with our bodies.

This is the core of how I teach and practice movement and yoga 💜

Ever feel bogged down by all the adulting?

I sure do.

Recently I had a blast at the Railroad Park in Scottsdale with a friend.

We rode the train, of course screaming like all the kids do going through the dark tunnel, which turned into joyful belly laughs.

We also rode the carousel and explored the railroad museum with its vintage train cars.

At one point “Chattanooga Choo Choo” came on and we started swing dancing right there inside one of the cars.

It was such a simple kind of joy.

Consider this your gentle nudge to find your version of play this week, even if it’s small. by @suzanne.brier
