Something you might not know about me is that I am plant-based nutrition certified. 🌱

I decided to get this certification through the Cornell University Colin T. Campbell Center for Nutrition Studies because I wanted to better understand the importance of diet and nutrition in my life.

I learned…

✔️ The science behind a plant-based diet.

✔️ The role nutrition plays in chronic disease.

✔️ How to create whole food, plant-based meals.

✔️ The impact of food production on the environment.

✔️ Trend diets, including gluten-free, low-carb, paleo, keto, etc.

✔️ How government and industry can affect our dietary choices.

I have taken the information I learned from this course to not only better my life, but the lives of my daughter and other family members too.

My goal is to also share with you the importance of plant-based nutrition and how it can transform your life! ❤️

What an incredible weekend!
It meant so much to be reunited with so many CBS 2 colleagues who were part of the very beginning of my career…people who taught me, encouraged me, made me laugh and helped shape the journalist I became.

Rob Stafford took me under his wing early on, bringing me out on stories and showing me firsthand how a story should be done. Jim Lichtenstein was an incredible manager and mentor from whom I learned so much. And what a blessing it was to work alongside true news icons Bill Kurtis and John Drummond.

Then there are videographers Dave Fox and Brian McMurray, who brought extraordinary skill…and so much fun…to every workday! Dave Price is still as funny as ever and had us laughing like no time had passed!

And last, but definitely not least, Sarah Lucero and Mary Pat Reilly. Two dear friends who have been in my life since the very start of my career at CBS 2.

The stories we shared, the laughter, the reminiscing it was just unmatched. The time together was truly priceless.

A weekend filled with a lifetime of memories, and a reminder of just how special the people are who become part of your journey. ❤️ taken in Museum of Broadcast Communications by @suzannelemignot

Gwendolyn Jackson was simply riding the bus home from work when an argument over a seat erupted around her, then gunfire…a single bullet hit her and another passenger.

She told me she could feel the blood rushing from her arm and is grateful to be alive. The bullet remains lodged in her arm because doctors believe removing it could cause more damage.

Her message after what happened…is powerful: we may all be going through something, but that is never a reason to take our anger out on someone else.

Tonight, Gwendolyn shares her story—and her concerns about safety on the CTA.

Three years ago, I introduced you to Sherrie Gary as she opened the door to her first home after 14 years in CHA housing.

Recently, she opened another door for me…to her very own first-grade classroom.

After a decade as a special education classroom assistant, raising two daughters and earning her college degree magna cum laude, Sherrie is now living the second dream she worked so hard to achieve: becoming a teacher.

Her journey is a beautiful reminder that where you start doesn’t have to determine where you finish — and now, she’s showing a new generation of children what’s possible.
