Join us November 2 to learn more about this one-week social change leadership experience that takes place in Montgomery, Birmingham, and Selma, Alabama – the birthplace of the American Civil Rights Movement. We will experience firsthand how art, design, and creativity shape, inspire, and galvanize change worldwide. The program includes visits to museums, memorials, and monuments, as well as reflective interactions with social leaders, designers, and artists.

How can play foster connection and creativity across generations? MFA Design for Social Innovation alumni Hao Jie Sim (@simhaojie) and Xiaolan Fu (@fuxiaolan88) brought their thesis project, Aging in Play (@aginginplay), to this year’s Games for Change Festival, walking away with reflections on the impact of designing accessible, low-barrier ways for communities to gather and create together.

Originally co-created and piloted with older adults in New York City, Aging in Play has since traveled to spaces such as the Strother School of Radical Attention in Brooklyn (@schoolofattention) and the Singapore Science Park (@sgsciencepark), each stop revealing new ways adaptive play can bring different communities together.

Thank you to all who joined us for this year’s expansive, reflective, and thought-provoking SVA MFA Design for Social Innovation Thesis Show. The presentations illustrated the extent to which social design succeeds in proximity. Their eco-social collaborations respond to the issues that ring true today, and affect tomorrow, including: media literacy, water access, transit inequality, overconsumption, community displacement, STEM education, gender inequality, aging, and social isolation.
