Only 9% of economic forecasters gave Fed Chair Kevin Warsh an A. 20% gave him a C.⁣
⁣
These are the people who watch the Fed more closely than anyone, and the next meeting lands just before the election.⁣

That's not a report card. That's a vote of no confidence.⁣

Tariffs are a supply shock. So is expensive energy.⁣
⁣
Prices are rising 3.7%. Wages are rising 3%. If you're staying in your job, you're falling behind.⁣
⁣
The Fed can raise rates, but that won't make oil cheaper or tariffs lower. It just slows the economy on top of it.⁣

Score one for the little guy! This year’s Nobel Prize in Economics goes to Michael Woodford of Columbia and Robert Hall of Stanford… both have studied the role the humble consumer plays in the workings of the global economy. Their work, according to the Swedish Academy, has helped governments and policymakers better respond to crises. It’s also a good reminder of how profoundly human the economy is. 🎁 🔗 in bio. What if the electronic shelf label you see at the grocery store isn't just showing you the price of the jar of mayonnaise you're about to buy — but actually raising the price because you put a can of tuna in your cart.

It's called surveillance pricing and retailers like Walmart appear to be locking down technology that will help them figure out how much they can charge you. @bstone6 joins @svaneksmith and @mchafkin on the Everybody's Business podcast to unpack this pricing strategy (which Walmart has denied using). Labor's share of income just hit a new all-time low.⁣
⁣
In the past 2 decades, owners of capital have slowly kept more of the pie for themselves. That means workers are taking home smaller and smaller slices. Income keeps shifting to the owners. ⁣

Will anyone actually get to retire?

Stacey Vanek Smith (@svaneksmith) argues that with longer lives and less physical work, retirement is no longer the finish line it used to be.

Kyla Scanlon (@kylascan) argues the bigger worry is whether the country can afford to retire anyone at all.

What if being buried under a mountain of debt isn't actually all your fault? After gaining a sizable social media following for sharing her years-long journey to pay down her debt, then starting a podcast about personal finance, @realgirlproject knows a thing or two about being broke and changing her lifestyle to take control of her finances.

The co-host of Debt Heads joins @mchafkin and @svaneksmith on the Everybody's Business podcast to discuss who she thinks is partially to blame for America's debt crisis and why she has stopped trying to get to debt zero. The Fed's dual mandate always creates tension: low rates help employment, high rates fight inflation. Right now, the inflation side of the seesaw is a bit too high. by @svaneksmith

The president wants 1% interest rates. Sounds great until you ask why.⁣
⁣
Yes, low rates can be the right medicine during an economic emergency, when unemployment is high and the economy needs a boost.⁣
⁣
But there's another reason to want cheap money: the federal government owes trillions of dollars, and low rates make that debt cheaper to service.⁣
⁣
That's the same logic as running up credit card debt and loving it when the rate drops. Feels good short term. Doesn't mean it's good policy.⁣
⁣
When politicians want low rates to ease their own borrowing costs rather than to fix the economy, that's not monetary policy anymore. That's something else. Word for the day: fiscal dominance. by @svaneksmith
