Fresh coffee. Lines coiled. Nerves steady.

Today’s the day.

The pilot boards soon. We’ll weigh anchor, ease into the Atlantic entrance, and start climbing the staircase of locks that splits two oceans. From sea level to Gatún Lake and back down again—gravity doing its quiet, ancient work while ships the size of floating cities slide past.

Bamboo is prepped and ready. Systems checked. Fenders out. Crew focused. This isn’t just a transit, it’s a hinge point. Atlantic behind us. Pacific ahead.

By sunset, we’ll be on the other side of a century-old engineering marvel, carrying forward into the next chapter.

Lines off. Shelter Bay fading behind us.

We eased out toward anchorage tonight, staging for a 0500 Panama Canal transit. Engines steady. Crew quiet. That particular kind of focus that settles in before something big.

And there he was, an American crocodile, just laying at the edge of the water like he owned the place. Not moving. Not impressed. Just ancient eyes watching another fiberglass creature slide past.

It’s wild to think we’re about to cross one of the greatest engineering feats on Earth, and the send-off comes from a literal dinosaur.

Bamboo is ready. Crew is ready. Coffee is inevitable.
