I will never get over the great pleasure of seeing the #SearchingForJuliet paperback in the shops. It’s already sold out in some Oxford bookshops (restocks on the way!) but had a happy look at it on the table upstairs in @oxford_waterstones. Pleased to be in company with @katherine.rundell too. Thanks to everyone who’s spotted a wild paperback and sent me a pic. Also, it’s my birthday today 🎉

Before and after. In 2022, @emily.oliver678 and I bought a house. There was damp rot in the roof timber, greenery growing out of the front wall, a drainpipe running through the leaking porch, lead pipes connecting us to the mains, and a windowsill which fell off during the survey. The windows were single-glazed aluminium and it was STILL THE BEST HOUSE I saw. 4 years (and one baby) later, swipe for the transformation of the front of the house. Windows by my dad ❤️; front and porch by TG Projects; wall, slabs, tiling, and gate restoration by ARKK Construction & Masonry. Would thoroughly recommend all three tho only the second and third are available for work on the open market, sorry…

Still not our cat. Still not our cat but still called Black Forest Catto. This morning we had to rescue him a pair of magpies. This afternoon he jumped onto our kitchen work surfaces while the baby was in her high chair and I think it was among the greatest moments of Floss’s life so far. taken in Oxford by @svduncan

frogs at boundary brook nature reserve today. There was also more frog spawn than I’ve ever seen in one place. Very grateful for another green space to which I can take Floss for free/cheap AND continually astonished by the abundance of same in OX4. She really loved seeing the 🐸 Thank you, Oxford Urban Wildlife Group.

On another note the last time I heard a pond full of loud frogs was in 2019 BUT THAT WAS IN TUSCANY o tempora o mores @megankatechester @maixxe jessiegoetzinger @honorbf @jooribyun @ellaraetournes @_floz___ &c

Here was our 15th Dec contribution to our street Advent Calendar! A bit inspired by the drawings in a Dick Bruna book which @sheenaghbean sent Floss, and not actually as simple 😅 as I thought it was going to be. But very pleased with it. Emily did about 900 hours of cutting and sticking. FELIZ NAVIDAD from our beloved overthought street WhatsApp activity to yours, and hope advent is treating you kindly.

thank you to the lovely team @ntbookshop for featuring #SearchingForJuliet so prominently in their Christmas display! Always a thrill. I did briefly pretend to be cool about this but @clint_dyer_ rightly saw through me. It’s just a joy to see your own book in the wild.

It also made me think about the beloved and much-missed @daphneheard who 9 years ago made sure #ShakespearesWomen was front and centre in the December window of the OUP bookshop on Oxford high street. He didn’t have to. He was endlessly kind. I felt like such an Author, seeing my first book in a shop window. Nice to recapture that as I lurked off-puttingly behind the NT patrons last night. taken in National Theatre by @svduncan
