Wow man A-Reaper has me thinking about the impact of snippets fr. See when someone catches those 4 bars, two lines, a single ad-lib that all you need to see it all over insta and TikTok the next morning.

I still remember the Collec’call snippet. 2018, earphones plugged. In the back of an Avanza on the way to school. That was so REAL. I remember analysing and thinking how all A-Recce needed was that 4 seconds of which he said everything everyone was already thinking. This was a classic. An instant one.

Mashbeatz lives off these, remember “Never Ride” because a sleeper hit almost entirely off TikTok, blowing up a week after release and eventually landing Spotify ads. The snippet isn’t a preview anymore, it’s actually become the primary artifact.

I think as a fellow South African we’ve understood this for so long and have understood it instinctively, long before “snippet culture” had a name for it. We never waiting for the drop just the four bars recorded off a car radio.

Just gave @oxiimoron 5th studio album, Self Ctrl, a listen. The Neo-soul renaissance is here and the youth are the pioneers right now. Reminds me of everything 90’s fine. The UK-based 🇬🇧 artist/singer-songwriter has spent this past week living rent-free in our replays, Therefore its only right that she’s the latest installation into BAM. @niasmithy is believed to pull inspiration from idols such as Lauren Hill, Amy Winehouse & Chronixx, however her sound, sounds like the next sentence in the same conversation as these idols. That’s rare, that’s the kind of artistry Vein Frequency exists to put spotlight on.

Been living inside pharrellxo’s discography all week, so sitting down with him for this one felt overdue, we get into his creative process, what it’s actually like working with @tylerwrldwide, and - my personal favourite - “outside” feat. Stanley Branson. Asked him if that record cuts as deep for him as it does for everyone who’s heard it, and what point in life he was in when he wrote it. Full answers below.

“tyler and i spent our entire childhoods together and been making music together since like primary school so we’re almost siamese with it now, he taught me how to produce and we love a lot of the same kind of music so the process is seamless now, most of our released songs are ideas of his i just finished off or rearranged but he’s at a really special artistic place where everything he makes is golden”

“outside is like a timestamp of the life i was living like two years ago fr, literally hitting girls up to come party with my friends and i, i was tryna romanticize that whole north boy culture of filling a club section with people who don’t care about each other and spending money frivolously - not a side of myself i’m particularly proud tbh of but it’s a side of myself regardless”

BAM, is Vein Frequency’s weekly listening ritual, spotlighting one track that reveals itself when the city quiets down. These are records made for late-night drives, headphones on the last bus ride home, dimly lit bedrooms and the moments in between. Music for the soul.
