POSTS STORIES REELS

Stepping aboard SV Florette is like stepping straight into maritime history. Built in 1921, this stunning historic brigantine carries over a century of stories in her wooden hull and towering sails. Sailing with us is a rare chance to experience authentic, traditional seafaring - from learning age-old knots and handling lines to feeling the raw power of a true tall ship cutting through the waves.

But history isn’t just about hard work; it’s about a timeless way of life. Between exploring ancient coastal communities and hiking rugged shores, there is always time to slow down. Drop anchor, dive into crystal clear waters for a swim, paddleboard, or simply lay on deck in the sun with a book, surrounded by the same endless horizons sailors have gazed at for generations.

Come touch history. Experience the perfect harmony of old-world adventure and modern relaxation. Stay tuned to svflorette.com for our next voyage calendar publishing soon!

Florette | Sardinia

Our Florette crew has also set out on their big journey. The first leg was from Vibo to Sardinia. We’ve gotten the routine down pretty well by now, and we’ve made it through the first bout of seasickness.

Now we’re continuing on, just like the Johnny, to Spain. 🇪🇸

We just completed the nearly 300nm journey from the Aeolian Islands to Sardinia and have anchored in a bay safe from the weather. We had two days and nights of navigation where our @oceancollege students really shone putting into practice many of their new skills, and learning more along the way. We had storms to navigate, and even spotted a waterspout, but we’re happy to report that everyone’s heavy weather gear does the job!

Happy Halloween from the Florette crew!

We departed Marina Carmel in Vibo this morning and made our way to our first anchorage. The students hoisted sails, deflated and stowed fenders, learned about the history of Florette with Rony, did knot school with Lukas and Amber, and learned to helm from Nicole. Some got out on the bowsprit to pack jibs with Maëla too! It was a busy first day at sea.

A few of our new crew took a bit longer to adjust to the swell today 🤢 but most were feeling a bit better by the afternoon.

Huge thank you to @marinacarmelofficial for hosting us while our crew provisioned and ran safety training with our new @oceancollege students and teachers. We can’t wait to begin our voyage! We’ll see you again next year 🌊

Day 1 with our new @oceancollege students was a success! Everyone was happy to arrive to the ship and super helpful onboard! The students got right to work loading baggage, unpacking in the cabins, and most importantly - helping to store our fresh provisions. Some also took turns in the galley preparing lunch and dinner. It’s going to be a great crew!

It’s nearly GO TIME on our next big voyage! @oceancollege has us charted until spring to take 24 high school students and 4 teachers through the Mediterranean, stoping in many places along the way, across the Atlantic, around the Caribbean, and back again on the biggest adventure and learning experience of their lives!

Meet Lukas ⚓️

Lukas joined the Florette crew a year and a half ago, but he’s been living the salt life since he was just 14 years old. With two years of tall ship experience already under his belt, including rounding Cape Horn, he’s a massive asset to the team.

Hailing from Bavaria, he is a trained boatbuilder and rigger with a serious regatta racing background. From precision woodwork to handling complex rigging, his technical skills are unmatched.

He’s a tireless worker who puts 100% into everything, but he’s also the ultimate live wire onboard who always brings the laughs and keeps the room smiling. We are so lucky to have his incredible expertise and high energy on board!

Drop a 🌊 in the comments to give Lukas a Florette welcome, and stay tuned to this series to meet the rest of the crew!
