Our debut EP 'At What Cost?' is set for release on 13th November. This EP is so close to our hearts and we have put everything into making it. It tells the story of Fin's early life and struggles with grief & loss. It's at the core of what we do here in SwanNek - sharing stories and celebrating loved ones. by @swan_nek

We’re still buzzing from last week’s boundary-pushing night of jazz, soul, and everything in between. Once again, @bbcintroducing from The Glasshouse delivered, with three artists who are quietly gearing up for something big. Ellen Beth Abdi – supported by the @jazznorth Northern Line programme – kicked things off, followed by local collective Phantom Bagman. The night was rounded off in style with Newcastle-based contemporary jazz collective SwanNek. What a night 🥰

Missed out? Don’t worry. Head to our YouTube channel to watch BBC Introducing from The Glasshouse live sessions.

🎸 COME FOR THE MUSIC. LEAVE WITH A NEW OBSESSION.

Love live music but wouldn’t necessarily call yourself a jazz fan? These three might change what you think jazz can sound like.

🔥@swan_nek
A Newcastle collective bringing a fresh, boundary-pushing sound to contemporary jazz. Expect big grooves, energy, improvisation and music that draws on the people, places and stories of the North East.

🎙️ @zoegilby & Andy Champion
Parliamentary Jazz Awards Jazz Vocalist of the Year winner Zoë Gilby joins double bassist Andy Champion for a beautifully stripped-back performance. Just voice and bass, with bold improvisation and the kind of musical understanding that comes from two performers who know each other’s playing inside out.

🥁 @sebrochford's Finding Ways
If your record collection includes The Verve, Gorillaz, Damon Albarn or anything that refuses to sit neatly in one genre, start here. Rochford’s new project brings together jagged grooves, exploratory guitars, improvisation and raw emotion – with former Verve and Gorillaz guitarist Simon Tong in the line-up.

You don’t need to know anything about jazz. You just need to love great live music.

Come and find out where it can take you. 🎶

🔥 ONE OF THE NORTH EAST’S MOST EXCITING NEW SOUNDS IS COMING TO DURHAM.

Meet @swan_nek – the Newcastle-based collective pushing contemporary jazz somewhere fresh.

Their music is bold, emotive and deeply personal, blending jazz with modern influences and drawing inspiration from the places, people and stories of the North East.

And people are starting to take notice.

Named one of BBC Introducing’s Ones to Watch in 2025, SwanNek ended last year with a headline show at The Glasshouse International Centre for Music, while BBC Introducing North East has described them as “a collective of musical superheroes.”

Now, with new music and some of their biggest releases yet arriving in 2026, they're bringing it all to Durham Jazz Festival.

Plus, they'll be joined by support from @jacobeggy.

If you like discovering exciting new music before everyone else catches on, make this one part of your Friday night. ⚡

Our debut music video comes out tomorrow in full on our YouTube (link in bio).

Following the story of Fin's grandparents and the impact dementia has on relationships, this film brings to life our single Memory Loss (from our debut EP, At What Cost?).

A million thanks and praises to @evewalkerdance for her incredible choreography and @ollie_films_stuff for his brilliant filmography on this project! Just wait and see...

We're releasing a music video for Memory Loss this coming Wednesday.

There are so many thanks to come but a special one goes to @evewalkerdance (go and check out her work ahead of the release).

This couldn't come at a better time, after last night's radio play of us playing the track live from @manchesterjazzfestival on @bbcradio3 by @sowetokinch ! A lot of heart went into creating this, and the rest of the EP, so we're really grateful to be able to keep on telling the story.

The full video will be available on our YouTube, alongside shorts on our Instagram from 4pm Wednesday.
