For My Beloved Badima
On 11th June, we said goodbye to one of the most extraordinary people I have ever known. Badima was far ahead of her time. Though she was married young, she never stopped believing in the power of education. She carried a deep love for learning throughout her life and made sure every one of her grandchildren understood its importance. She taught us that knowledge is something no one can ever take away from you.
She was intelligent, wise, and full of grace. I still hear her voice saying her favorite phrases: "A thing of beauty is a joy forever" and "Love begets love." At the time they sounded like simple sayings, but today I understand that they were the principles by which she lived.
Some of my fondest memories are of sitting by her side in her room, listening to stories from the Ramayana and the Mahabharata. Every night, I would ask for "one more story," and every night she would smile and say, "Tomorrow." Those stories were never just stories; they were lessons in courage, duty, faith, and humanity. As we grew up, she quietly embedded in us the virtues she valued most—strength, integrity, kindness, cleanliness, discipline, and compassion. She taught not by preaching, but by living those values every day. And yet, she was never serious all the time. She was fun, playful, and full of humor. She loved teasing us, making us laugh, and filling every gathering with warmth. Her presence made a house feel like a home.
That was who she was—kind, wise, strong, and deeply loving.
And just like that, she left us. Quietly. Gracefully. Without troubling anyone. The same way she lived her life—with dignity and selflessness.
I choose to believe that she has become one with God now, because souls like hers are rare. She was an angel among us, and now she has returned home.
Badima, thank you for every story, every lesson, every laugh, every prayer, and every moment of unconditional love. Thank you for helping shape the people we have become.
I will miss sitting beside you. I will miss your voice. But I know that love never truly leaves. I will see you on the other side. We love you today, tomorrow, and forever.❤️ by @swatidass
