Condensed King Salmon Chaos.

Still in awe of the beauty that is the Lost Coast. Last minute trip with my buddy Michael paid off big time. We got a “late” start Sunday at 8am, and were greeted at the beach by kayakers packing up with limits. Instant feeling of missing out, but we were determined to make our own report.

We definitely had some early bites, but nothing stuck unfortunately. Fast forward a couple hours, and Michael radios me that he has a California Halibut in the net. Not the target species, but a pleasant surprise as we don’t see too many of them down here in Fort Bragg.

Around 1pm there was a sudden window where I got 2 takedowns back to back, but neither stuck. A few minutes later, another takedown, this one stuck, and is the first fish you’ll see in the video. After getting that first fish in the net, me and Michael were ready to call it a day as we were both running on a few hours of sleep. We had met at my place at 4am, and I can never sleep good the day before a fishing trip.

Monday morning we were ready to launch around 5:40am. I got my first takedown 5 minutes after launching, but it spit the hook. 15 minutes later I had a 18lber in the net just after 6am. A couple short strikes later, I had my limit fish in the net at 7:20am. Michael had to work a little longer, but he ended up getting a nice 15lber for his first ever kayak salmon. Truly special morning that was.

The kayak fishing community up there was equally special. Never have I been surrounded by so many talented kayak anglers, all with the same goal of catching the elusive Kayak King. Gonna be hard to top that trip for sure. by @sway_a

It’s been a goal of mine to catch a 20+ lb King from the kayak for a long time now. After securing a limit on my buddy’s boat on opening day, I knew it was time to put in the work. It didn’t come easy, but somehow the stars aligned and I was able to make it happen. Fish gave me about all I could handle after 7 hours of pedaling. Mission accomplished. by @sway_a

First day on the big pond for 2025 was a success. As much as I have been loving fishing inland waters, nothing hits quite like catching your own food in the salt 10 minutes from your house. by @sway_a

Fun day at Lake Mendo yesterday. Lost my GoPro overboard pretty early on, and jokingly told my buddy Michael, “Well the lake has taketh, now hopefully it will giveth”. I figure there is no sense in ruining the vibe over a material loss. After catching about 30 bass between 3 of us, I was rewarded with a nice one on the eighth hour of fishing. Juice is worth the squeeze. by @sway_a

After several trips skunking, I was gifted with a PB Bass for my first fish of 2024. Thousands and thousands of casts, finally paid off. Gonna be hard to top this one, but hey, it’s something to work for. 8.475 lbs by @sway_a
