Revealing a new kids mural 🌻

This mural means so much to me. This summer, I had the privilege of teaching a kids mural class through @heartsaligned614 ,where our goal was to build confidence and foster self- expression through art.

For the mural, we brought our message to life with our slogan ‘Step into your Light’ and in the middle and every artist got to leave their signature. ✍️✨

One of the most important parts for me was letting the mural live as how the kids painted it. I barely touched up the mural after they painted it because I wanted them to look at that wall and realize “I did that”.

I hope they carry that feeling with them far beyond this mural. The confidence to try, create, make mistakes, take up space, and believe they can do anything they put their minds to.

I’m so incredibly proud of every one of them. 🥹💕

We also could not have made this possible without our sponsors! Special thanks to @nodrippainting and @sherwinwilliams whom graciously provided our paint. Thank you to @loweshomeimprovement Columbus on Silver Dr for our brushes and other supplies. And thank you to everyone who donated their time and money. We cannot say thank you enough!!

Plus a HUGE thank you to all of the amazing adults who helped bring this project to life. This mural truly took a village. 🫶 @yerryashley @60_phade @lindsey.drahos @miki.rei.creates @morgspon @_courtneyg taken in hosful Collective by @sweet_thanggg

“I want you to learn that flowers will return, if you, if you give it time” 🌸🤍⛓️‍💥

New mural inspired by a song called ‘Flowers Will Return’ by @shanandtheclams

I choose to paint a horse that is running through a storm. By weathering the storm the horse takes on characteristics of the storm and is transformed into something new. Sometimes life hits us with events that may shift who we are and our perspective but it’s important to try to push through. There is still beauty to be found on the otherside of the storm.

Check out this mural I painted for the @brickcityartworks mural fest in Dayton 🥀 My piece is based off of the #powerless series by @laurenrobertslibrary ⚔️ The flowers in the mural have a lot of meaning in the books but I don’t want to spoiled it for anyone 🤭 💐 My hand writing is so messy but it says “You are my inevitable” 💘

The sunflowers mirror the shape of the sun in the center of our mural. They represent curiosity, growth, and following the light. The repetition of the sun shape emphasizes the hopes of our slogan, ‘Step into your light’ centered in the sun. Young sunflowers naturally turn toward the sun as it moves, which felt like a beautiful connection to kids as they learn, explore, and grow into themselves. 🌻

The swallows flying toward the sun are a big part of the heart behind this mural. Swallows have long been a symbol of freedom, hope, love, and coming home. Sailors would look for them as a sign that land was near, so I loved the connection to Hearts Aligned becoming a safe and steady place for our kids to return to while they grow.

For me, the swallows also represent the hope we have for each of these kids. That through art, they can build confidence, learn to express themselves freely, and discover what they’re capable of. Those skills reach far beyond the mural. We want them to carry that confidence, creativity, communication, and self-expression into whatever paths they choose in life.

The birds taking flight toward the sun represent them finding their own direction and stepping into their light, wherever that may lead them. 🌞

The rays of light coming down play into our slogan “Step into your light” again, further emphasizing ours hopes for the kids.

The stage spotlights represent a stage, a reminder that the world is their stage and they have the ability to shape what comes next. Through our program they can literally “Step into the light”. The spotlight is on them 💡

Some more rays of light 🩵

The kids got to sign the mural at the end.Forever leaving their mark to let the world know “I was here”. They are capable of anything they put their minds to ✍️

Had to much fun painting this mural for @newphasescosmetics_shanna with @groovygirls614 💓Her studio style aligned perfectly with our art and I was extra excited since she requested moon phases and I have some tattooed across my back 🌖🌗🌘🌑🌒🌓🌔 Her studio is so so so cute and they offer all sorts of beauty care such as fine line tattooing, micro needling, nails, hair, spray tans, ice plunges, and even psychic readings 🔮 Be sure to check them out 🫶 taken in Newark, Ohio by @sweet_thanggg

Had to run it back on this one. I’m trying to be more creative with reel content and I came up with this idea at the spot. 🤓
