Were you at Ezzies when Jay-Z bought the bar?
How about Drake at the Ranch in 2016?

For those few nights, the most northern city on this continent played host to hip-hops biggest performers. They not only did the big arena shows but they also popped out to see what Edmontonians are really about.

Leave a comment if you were at these spots. I need someone else to back me up.

Or pull up to @99tenyeg to discuss this any many other Edmonton hip-hop related topics on Thursday before @sweetmouthsounds @shaynestartedit @joereedz.00 hit the stage. by @sweeterdans

DRAKE vs JAŸ-Z [A Live Jazz Experience] EDMONTON THURSDAY AUGUST 27TH 2026 @99tenyeg

Sweet Mouth Sounds w/ @shaynestartedit (YEG) & @joereedz.00 (YYZ) take the stage for a 4th! year in a row in Edmonton. This time it’s a battle of hip-hop royalty.

If you’ve been to an SMS show, you know this isn’t just a concert or DJ set. It’s a setlist of the biggest records, deep cuts and iconic anthems that get a jazz-infused remix that flips the melodies, adds new harmonies, and improvises over the beats.

It’s celebration of hip-hop in a way that is transformed into something you’ve never heard before.

And for one night, EDMONTON gets to decide who is the best rapper alive.

Are you with the ICEMAN or the JIGGAMAN? OVO or HOV?

So dust off the Rocawear, throw on the OVO owl, and come ready to make some noise.

Setting the vibe early is Van City’s - CARLITO - @cvrlitoswvy

Ticket link in bio.

The Caribbean community is such a huge part of what makes Toronto the city it is.

Even as a kid growing up in Alberta, I always looked forward to flying to Toronto for the August long and experiencing how vibrant this city becomes during Caribana weekend.

This year I really made a point of taking in even more of the festivities than previous years.

From the King & Queen Showcase to the parade, reggae shows, soca and dancehall parties put on by local collectives and DJs, and getting to experience it all with friends from all different backgrounds (whether they live here or were visiting) made it a very memorable weekend.

One event that especially stood out was the Toronto Caribana History Zine launch by @reclaimrebuildegwest and @42mtp at Monica’s Cosmetic Supplies Ltd. on Eglinton West, aka Little Jamaica.

The Zine explores the origins of Carnival, the history of Caribana in Toronto, the people who helped shape it, its economic impact, and outlines a call to action for how the City of Toronto can better support the communities that built these traditions.

I know I’m a guest in spaces like this, so I’m really grateful to everyone who welcomed me in and shared something that means so much to so many people. I’ll always try to show up with respect, curiosity, and appreciation.

Thank you to everyone who puts in the work to make Caribana what it is. I’m grateful for the chance to celebrate, and if you haven’t had the opportunity to experience it, or want to learn more about its history then I highly recommend starting with the Toronto Caribana History Zine:
