A legit and an uptempo ✨😂 It’s been just over 1 year since The Music Man closed, so I thought it would be fun to dust off the most fun (and stressfully exposed) moments from the show! We wrote this song as a demo for a new musical we started developing in 2023. After a few years on the back burner, we decided to share it with the world today, on Yom HaShoah — Holocaust Remembrance Day, and the commemoration of the Warsaw Ghetto Uprising.

Endless thanks to Maya, Ari, and Michael for their incredible talent, creativity, heart, and enthusiasm. We literally met up once—yesterday—to rehearse and record this in 2 hours, and somehow Michael edited the video overnight. Also huge thank you to @jillianzackrodgers for allowing us to use her beautiful studio and piano to record.

Maya, Ari, Michael, and I come from families of Holocaust survivors, and getting to work together on this was extremely meaningful—hopefully this song can bring a spark of light into the world, and help us feel more connected to what matters the most. ❤️ by @sweetnlowy

There’s so much more to share, but this was my biggest excitement of the night. I was most nervous for this song because I had to hold notes for a long period of time and that’s something I couldn’t do six months ago and I was still afraid that I was going to not have the strength by the end of the show to do this without my voice cutting out. It’s just six beats of a song, but I feel so accomplished to have been able to hold a note for that long and I’m feeling so positive again that I’m literally crying happy tears while I’m writing this.

Also, it felt so good to hear an audience be so engaged that they laughed at our silly little lyrics and I just felt so lucky in this moment.

10 years ago this month (!), I brought an original musical, Fallen Skies, to the 2016 New York International Fringe Festival at the SoHo Playhouse! ✨🎶

In college, I wasn’t working with a lyricist yet, so I wrote this show by extracting and arranging the writing of D.H. Lawrence (excerpts from novels, short stories, poems, and letters), and presented it as my senior thesis.

Andy performed in both the thesis and Fringe performances, and Julia directed both as well! Andy is currently being a star on the Phantom tour, but he managed to do this beautiful self-tape on the road. And somehow I got Emily, Katie, and Jess to read, rehearse, and record this with me in less than an hour, with Julia filming 🙌🏻

My writing has changed a lot in the last 10 years, but it’s fun to revisit this song from my NYC premiere, especially with some of the people who have been there from its earliest days! 🥰
