This picture represents more than Talladega College. It represents a journey.

Two gentlemen, Simon King and Monroe D. Thornton, introduced me not only to Talladega College, but to the state of Alabama. They were teachers at my high school who saw a young man with no real direction and no family guiding his next steps, and they took me under their wings.

Because of them, I learned about Talladega College, the Alpha Lyra Vega of them all.

I arrived at Talladega on a Greyhound bus, by myself, carrying more uncertainty than confidence. I didn’t have a perfectly mapped-out plan for my life. I was simply a young man trying to figure out where I belonged and what I was supposed to become.

And it wasn’t easy. There were times when I almost dropped out. Times when I questioned whether college was for me. Times when going home or simply giving up would have been easier.

But I stayed.

Somewhere along the way, I discovered what so many others have discovered at Talladega: I found family. I found people who believed in me. I found purpose. I found a place that challenged me to become more than the young man who stepped off that Greyhound bus.

In 1996, I graduated from Talladega College.

Looking back now, I realize Simon King and Monroe D. Thornton didn't simply introduce me to a college. They helped change the trajectory of my life.

That young man who came to Alabama alone could not have imagined the road ahead. He just knew he had to keep going.

And he did.

Talladega College, Class of ’96. Forever grateful. Forever Talladega. ❤️💙

⚽️ Today was supposed to be Chipmunk’s big soccer debut… but my man stepped by outside, felt that heat, grabbed the umbrella and said, “Yeah… I’m not doing all that.” 😂☀️

Soccer career currently postponed due to unfavorable working conditions. 🤣⚽️

Kolin said until that NIL money hits the account, he will NOT be risking his body in this heat. 😂⚽️☀️💰 by @sweetverse
