The North Carolina Swimming (NCS) Coach Leadership Award is a highly respected, peer-nominated honor designed to recognize coaches who go above and beyond everyday deck training. While other awards may focus heavily on athletic point totals or team rankings, this award celebrates overall citizenship, service, leadership, and organizational impact.

Please join us in celebrating our very own Casey Charles, who has proudly served as our Head Coach and CEO for over 20 years, on receiving this incredible honor! 🐊🏆 by @swim_eca

Congratulations to our ECA swimmers!

ECA swimmers competed this past weekend in the YMCA Pier to Pier Swim and everyone swam exceptionally well. This open water swim runs from the Johnny Mercer and Crystal Pier in Wrightsville Beach, covering almost two miles. Hope to see even more of our swimmers out there next season.

Iris Eldridge was ECA’s top finisher, placing second in her age group with a time of 46:52.

Olivia Nehus finished fourth in her age group with a time of 48:11.
Bristol Bleau also finished fourth in her age group.
Josie Eldridge finished seventh in her age group.
ECA team president Bob Landry competed again this season, completing the race over 15 minutes faster than his previous attempt!

ECA is back in action this weekend at the ECA Splash and Dash in Morehead City, NC and two weeks later with the Rock the Blocks Meet in Smithfield, NC

For more than two decades, Casey Charles has helped lead East Carolina Aquatics, serving as CEO and Head Coach since 2006. During his tenure, ECA has developed five world-ranked athletes, an Olympic gold medalist, and swimmers who have earned more than 100 state titles. Casey is also a two-time North Carolina Swimming Senior Coach of the Year.

Casey’s impact extends beyond the athletes he personally coaches. His coaching philosophy and group structure guide ECA’s developmental progression, creating a pathway from a swimmer’s earliest stages through senior and national-level competition.

The goal is not simply to make swimmers faster today, but to develop technique, work ethic, accountability, confidence, and independence that allow athletes to succeed over time.

Process dictates outcome.

And the mission remains the same: building quality individuals through the team sport of swimming. by @swim_eca

For more than a decade, Bob Landry has been an incredibly important part of East Carolina Aquatics. During that time, he has given countless hours to ECA and to the sport of swimming.

Bob currently serves as President of the ECA Board of Directors, but his involvement in swimming goes well beyond ECA. He has served as a Meet Referee at some of the biggest meets in North Carolina, including NCS Championship meets and NCHSAA State Championships. He serves on the North Carolina Swimming Governance Committee and was recently named the NCHSAA Eastern Swimming and Diving Association Regional Supervisor.

Bob has also taken his involvement to the national level as a member of USA Swimming’s Operational Risk Committee.

All of those titles are impressive, but they do not really explain what Bob has meant to ECA or, more importantly, the kind of person he is.

Away from the pool, Bob is a loving husband to Robin and a dedicated father to David, Will, and Andrew. The same qualities that have made him so important to his family are easy to see in the way he has given his time and energy to ECA for so many years.

The totality of Bob’s impact on ECA is difficult to measure because his influence can be felt in nearly every aspect of the organization. Whether working a meet, offering advice, helping solve a problem, or simply being someone ECA can depend on, Bob has always been willing to do whatever is needed. His commitment has never been about recognition or a title. It comes from a genuine love for the sport, the organization, and the people who are part of it.

More than a decade of that kind of commitment says far more about Bob than any list of positions ever could.

East Carolina Aquatics is incredibly fortunate to have had Bob Landry in its corner for more than a decade. ECA is better because of him. Thank you, Bob, for everything you have done and continue to do for ECA and for swimming. by @swim_eca

EAST CAROLINA AQUATICS TAKES ON STATE CHAMPS

Huge summer for ECA! Our swimmers hit the blocks at both the NC LC Senior Championships and the NC LC Age Group Championships, and they broke out some outstanding swims.

Special congratulations to Ben Davis, Sierra Knapp, Sam Serkin, Dawkins Pahe, and Jayden Davis on qualifying for the state championship meet for the first time!

Here are a few of the meet highlights:

SENIOR CHAMPS STANDOUTS

Hadleigh Kulas had a meet to remember. She won the 50 breaststroke, then backed it up with a 5th place finish in the 200 breast and 6th in the 100 breast. A breaststroke sweep to be proud of.

Kate Geiger put together a strong all around meet, highlighted by a 9th place finish in the 200 back across freestyle, backstroke, and butterfly events.

Both ECA relay squads scored big: the women’s 200 medley relay placed 6th, the men’s 200 medley relay placed 7th, and both the women’s and men’s 400 free relays finished 12th.

Miller Jones turned in the meet’s biggest drop for ECA, a massive 24 second improvement in the 400 free. Sam Johnson also dropped solid time in his sprint freestyle and fly.

AGE GROUP CHAMPS STANDOUTS

Jonathan Hernandez put together an unbelievable meet: he won the 50 free, placed 3rd in the 100 free, 4th in the 200 free, and cracked the top 8 in both the 100 back (7th) and 50 fly (7th), scoring points in event after event ultimately qualifying himself for the NC Zone Team.

Cole Blanks turned in a strong all around performance, highlighted by a 15th place finish in the 100 fly along with scoring swims in the 50 free.

Eli Shiosaky raced across the freestyle and butterfly events, highlighted by a 32nd place finish in the 50 free.

Also representing ECA on the podium chase: Sierra Knapp, Vicky Lin, Calista Wang, Samuel Serkin, Dawkins Pahe, and Jayden Davis all stepped up for the team across a wide range of events.

Congratulations to every swimmer who raced this month. Proud of the work, the drops, and the fight you brought to the blocks.
