POSTS STORIES REELS

Come and view this largest artwork in the series on Fleet Street, Swindon! 🤩🤩 Created by local artist Ed Poster @edposter1 it has now been completed on the prominent wall between the Ibis Hotel and Holiday Inn, overlooking a leisure and hospitality area that includes pubs, restaurants and independent venues such as Drinks Valley Bar and Microbrewery.

The striking vibrant British Wildlife Corridor design features native wildflowers and a dragonfly, symbolising biodiversity and referencing the historic Wilts & Berks Canal, part of which once ran through Swindon town centre.

Managed and curated by @countonher @artsite.ltd
Supported by @swindonculturecollective @swindonboroughcouncil
Thank you @tigerplanthire for the height equipment, @paintingbynumbers1 for the wall prep and support.

Sad news hearing about HELCH.
He came to Swindon off his own back for the 2024 @swindonpaintfest and this wicked, iconic piece that we saw him work on is still up on Fleming Way, along with so many other great artists’ work along this stretch and into Corporation Street.
Massive respect for this artist and the community.
Rest in peace, HELCH.

Public art has the power to tell stories that connect communities.

In 2022, this striking mural of Nirmal ”Nims Dai” Purja was painted in Swindon by @martintravers71 as part of @swindonpaintfest to celebrate his remarkable achievement of climbing all 14 of the world’s 8,000-metre peaks in record time. It also recognised the vibrant Nepali community that has made Swindon their home and the contribution they make to our town.

Following the recent tragedy on Broad Peak, we remember Nims Dai and all those who lost their lives. Their passion, determination and achievements will continue to inspire people around the world.

Murals like this remind us that culture can honour extraordinary people, celebrate the diversity of our communities and help tell the stories that shape who we are.

Do you have a favourite piece of public art in Swindon? We’d love to hear about it in the comments.

We were saddened to hear of the passing of Nirmal “Nims” Purja.💙
This mural was painted by Martin Travers @martintravers71 for Swindon Paint Fest 2022 at 47-48 Bridge Street, Swindon. This mural still stands today and honours an extraordinary mountaineer whose courage, resilience and determination inspire millions around the world. His legacy will live on. Rest in peace 🙏🏻 by @swindonpaintfest

We had a great day at Artsite Youth @hubswindon the Saturday before last for our mural workshop. 12 local young people created wonderful artworks which will feature in a new mural in the town centre this summer! The young people will even have an opportunity to help paint it, lovely 🥰

Big thanks again to @dayna12622 and @carynkoh for collaborating with us and delivering a great workshop! by @swindonpaintfest

SWDN @dempsee.jpg solo exhibition launch party and viewing was held this evening at Recoup Care and Bar, Hotel Ibis, 1 Henry Street, SN1 5BX. *Edited*
SWDN is a visual research and design project focused on the notable faces, places and moments from Swindon’s history and puts a contemporary, graphic arts led spin on it. The idea is not to be super clean, polished and council friendly. Instead, the work is developed through collages, prints and paintings as a way to demonstrate both Swindon’s identity and introduce a new perspective through a black, white and red colour scheme, rough cut visual elements and things are deliberately imperfect, much like the town itself.

The use of red that is found consistently throughout the project represents the town’s football club, a key anchor which everyone aware of the town can recognise. This use of red is found in lettering, paint marks and stars, a representation of the North Star iconography found throughout the town. The paintings are hand painted on canvas board and wood, made to look worn out and to replicate the look of high contrast photocopies.

The prints are built up from archival imagery within the town’s history, cut up and rebuilt into something new, acting as both a parody and tribute to the town I grew up in.

Big thanks to @artsite.ltd and @countonher for their support on this project and thanks to ReCoup Cafe and Bar for hosting! Thank you @marinaqueenspark for visiting and everyone who’s come to support!

DEMPSEY – SWDN Reimagined: Exhibition NITE 04.07.26

Join Artist Jake Dempsey for the launch night of his solo exhibition exploring the identity of Swindon through graphic art, collage, print and painting.

Launch Night*
📅 Saturday 4 July 2026
🕔 5:00pm – 9:00pm
📍 ReCouP Café & Bar (corner of Hotel Ibis 1 Henry Street)
📌what3words: leave/clean/kick

This body of work takes inspiration from the town’s notable places, faces and moments, reinterpreting them through a contemporary graphic arts approach. Rather than presenting a polished, picture-postcard version of Swindon, the exhibition embraces its character through bold black, red and white colour palettes, rough-cut textures and intentionally imperfect compositions.

Bring your friends, ask questions, and experience a different perspective on Swindon. I’d love to see you there.

*Due to content, this exhibition is open to 18+ by @swindonpaintfest

#repost @dempsee.jpg I have a solo exhibition coming up that displays my graphic research work based around the identity of Swindon. It takes the notable places, faces and moments from Swindon’s history and puts a contemporary graphic arts led spin on it.

*Edited* There is a launch party and viewing at Recoup Cafe on the 4th of July from 5pm to 9pm!

The idea isn’t to be super clean, polished and council friendly. The work is instead developed through collages, digital prints, screen prints and paintings as a way to demonstrate both Swindon’s identity and introduce a new perspective through a black, red and white colour scheme, rough cut visual elements and things that are deliberately imperfect, much like Swindon itself.

Come along, bring your friends, ask questions and see the work!

Big thanks to @artsite.ltd and @countonher for their support on this project and thanks to ReCoup Cafe and Bar for hosting!
