The parents looking at your wedding photographer are almost never looking at the aesthetic first. They are looking for proof that somebody will be there, honor the contract, and deliver what was promised.

Every parent I have ever met asks about reliability before they ask about style, and they are right to.

Paperwork, volume, a real delivery window, actual direction on the day, and a photographer with opinions about your timeline. Five inputs, and every one of them is answerable in a fifteen minute call.

Ask me all five. Ask the other three photographers on your list all five too.

Comment INQUIRE and I will answer every one of them for you in writing. taken in Chateau Nouvelle by @swishnclick

I ordered 11 things, kept none of them, and cried in a fitting room. I will take the couples who admit it, thanks.

Finding an engagement session outfit in an extended size is a genuinely miserable sport and nobody in this industry says that out loud. The stores that DO carry your size do not photograph their clothes on anybody your size, so you are shopping blind and then you wind up blaming your body for the result.

I have opinions about fabric, movement, sleeves and how a color reads under Houston/Toronto light, and I give them out for free to every couple I work with. Put down the seventh outfit.

Ask me first.

Not everyone’s gonna like this.

1. The contract you skimmed. A real contract is the marker of a photographer who plans to still be here in eighteen months, and not having one is a red flag.

2. The deposit you sent over an app. People treat a quick transfer as a win. This is not a flex, but a huge red flag, and there should be an invoice with your name on it every single time.

3. The insurance you never asked about. Most venues in Houston and Toronto require it, and a photographer who can’t produce a certificate in an afternoon is telling you something.

4. The delivery date nobody put in writing. Twelve weeks is industry standard and normal, and a photographer who won’t commit to a number is not protecting you, they’re protecting themselves.

5. The full gallery you never got to see. Anybody can post eleven good frames. Ask to sit with one entire wedding, start to finish, and watch what happens.

A venue coordinator runs the building. A planner runs your day, and your gallery can feel the difference.

Happy 1953. Sorry, I mean 2026.

1. 67% of women in the US are a size 14 or larger, and you can scroll a luxury wedding feed for twenty minutes and not find one of them.

2. Bridal salons routinely stock a full run of sample gowns in sizes 8 and 10 and keep a handful past 18, so most people trying on larger sizes are being asked to imagine it.

3. Couples in larger bodies tell me they looked at galleries for months before they found one photographer who had photographed a body like theirs.

4. The people most likely to untag themselves from every photo for a decade are the ones who then have zero pictures from their own engagement.

5. And the smallest one, the one that makes me the angriest, is that finding an engagement session outfit in an extended size still takes four times as long as it should.

Share this with somebody who needs to see it, and comment MORE if you want the shop list I give my couples. taken in Lake Ontario by @swishnclick

Respectfully, if I’m photographing the one day you cannot redo, it’s an investment and not an expense. We are so quick to shut down spending money on the photos, but the four hours of open bar nobody remembers is always worth it.

What if you spent that money on the only part of the day that still exists on Tuesday? The flowers die, the food gets eaten, the band packs up at midnight.

Now yes, of course, a lot of this comes down to picking the right team and a timeline that can actually breathe. But the reality is your wedding happens only once, with one shot at every moment in it, and a photographer is the person carrying that.

It isn’t a one-size-fits-all, but it’s where I’d start. Stop looking at wedding photos as an expense and start looking at them as the only thing you get to keep.

Most couples think a great gallery comes down to their body. It comes down to whether your photographer knows how to direct it.

I have spent eleven years learning to pose every kind of body, and the couples who trust that walk away shocked at their own photos.

Comment INQUIRE and I will send you proof, from real couples who were sure the camera hated them.

Unpopular opinion: the group chat going quiet when you drop your gallery is the ultimate flex. Not because the compliments are bad.

Because that silence is rare. It means somebody looked at a photo of you and forgot to type.

A gallery like that shapes everything downstream. What your parents frame.

What your kids fight over. What you see when you walk past the hallway in fifteen years.

Money buys the stuff everyone can see at the wedding. But buying the two seconds where nobody in the group chat knows what to say?

That’s the real one.

Comment INQUIRE and I’ll send you a consultation link so we can build your dream proposal for your wedding date.

I wish more couples knew that eating on your wedding day is a photography decision. The couples who eat well are the ones who put food in the timeline on purpose, and the ones who end up running on nothing are the ones who assumed it would happen somewhere between hair and portraits.

Buffer time for food the same way you buffer time for the first look. Eat before hair and makeup starts, because that is the calmest hour you are going to get all day.

Eat something your planner can hand you with one hand. Eat after the ceremony, and actually sit down for it.

Drink water between every glass of champagne, and let somebody bring you a plate during cocktail hour instead of being polite about it.

Comment MORE and I’ll message you the rest of what I tell my couples about protecting the food and the light in the same timeline.

Many times couples find the things we push for around timelines to be boring. Personally, I like boring, and every one of these felt impossible to my couples back when they started planning.

Signs you’re doing great at your wedding timeline: you have buffer built around hair and makeup, because that is the block that always runs long.

Your portraits are not stacked against your ceremony start time.

You have twenty minutes somewhere in there where nobody needs you. You’ve eaten a real meal after the ceremony.

And your partner knows what time you’re supposed to be somewhere without asking you. With a planner and a little padding, every one of those is a thing my couples now have, and I can confirm the photos from those days look completely different, which helps with everything else going on.

Are you looking to build a day with actual buffer in it this year?

Comment MORE and I’ll send you the timeline template I give my couples.
