TODAY is the day. These pictures…from two years ago and from last week represent a special journey for Will and our family. Will has learned so much and grown tremendously. This has been HIS mission experience, and yet we, as a family, have also learned along the way. 4 key lessons or principles that I’ve learned from this journey:
1- There may be certain blessings that come from having a missionary, BUT the real expansion in blessings comes from our PERSPECTIVE ON THE BLESSINGS WE ALREADY HAVE. We tend to appreciate the truly meaningful things more during this time…simple or deep conversations, time together, praying for and thinking about each other, the laughs of life, etc.
2- DOING HARD THINGS IS HARD! The day Will was headed to Brazil from the MTC he messaged Kara and said, “Mom, I’m so scared, pray for me.” Will’s mission experience has been outstanding, inspiring, and so fun! It has also been hard for him and us…parenting from 5,515 miles away isn’t easy. We can’t just give him a hug, we can’t take him on a road trip to talk, we can’t live his life for him. He has experienced some really tough things AND because of that has become stronger for doing it on his own…with His Savior!
3- JUST WHEN YOU THINK YOU HAVE LIFE FIGURED OUT IT THROWS YOU A CURVE BALL! We tend to figure things out in life, get comfortable, feel like things are in “flow state” AND THEN we experience a setback, change, or hardship. It’s as if God is saying, “I know, I know, but I need you to grow into something more.” Go with it and take it as a sign of trust and love.
4- CHRIST IS THE CENTER of all we do. Whether any of us see it, recognize it, or intentionally select it…Christ is centered in our lives. When we choose to have Him accompany us along the journey our view on ALL aspects of life (trials, work, fun, adventure, SPIRITUAL, etc) is the best.
We love you Will, we are grateful for the lessons we’ve also experienced while you have been gone, AND we are beyond hyped to hug you and bring you home today! by @swmortensen

Two/2/Dois Weeks and this spiritual giant will be ‘coming home’ from the @fortalezaeast_2025_2028_page mission! He has served well, has grown in his own conversion to Christ, has made so many friends that we now count as family, and has given his heart to the people of Brazil. Well done @will__morty. To the end!!!

Very few transfers that took place this offseason will make more of an impact than Eli Mortensen to Skyridge. This pairing makes a lot of sense and I feel that it is mutually beneficial for both parties. Mortensen comes in from highly respected 3A power Morgan, where he dominated on both sides of the ball and made a name for himself state wide. I expect his development to elevate even higher with the competition level that he will face every week in region 3.

As a prospect, his ceiling is sky high. Eli will play primarily defense for the Falcons, but has the talent and ability to contribute on the offensive side of the ball as well. Mortensen already has several P4 offers, but is trending toward becoming a blue chip type recruit. He has rare athleticism, great ball skills and a natural feel for the game that can’t be taught. Look for Eli to make major contributions in R3 over the next two seasons. This is a premier prospect from the state of Utah.

The last few months, and really the last 22 months, of @will__morty mission in the @fortalezaeast_2025_2028_page mission have been absolutely faith promoting and spiritual for all of us. His spirit, his joy for the work, his desire to please God, and his consistent happy/fun/humorous personality continue to make a difference in the lives of the beautiful Brazilian people.
Let’s be clear, missions are hard! They are long, tiring, anxiety inducing, emotionally, spiritually, and physically taxing. They make you question a lot of things. AND they are worth every minute of growth, development, and faith-building that occurs.
Will’s mission has not only blessed him, but our family as well. In two short months we will welcome him home with completely open arms. BUT we will miss our weekly chats via WhatsApp, the spiritual thoughts throughout the week along with hilarious emojis (gotta stay obedient), and the inspiring emails he writes.
We are grateful for his companions, his mission leaders (both the Tanner’s and the Page’s), his district and zone members, and the beautiful members and friends in Fortaleza.
