“Pinnacle of Motorsport” how does one earn that title? How does a sport become the best? For me, in Motorsport it’s the combination of everything, from driver, to team, to car, to track. In Motorsport everything and everyone has to come together to produce optimal results. When I first started watching Motorsport, I was introduced to Formula 1. I thought it was the best sport I’ve ever seen, it had everything; speed, adrenaline, awesome track layout, amazing teams and drivers. My favorite driver to this day remains the one and only seven time German world champion Michael Schumacher. For me, this man has proved over and over again that it’s not the car it’s the driver, it’s the ambition and passion that drives. However, the recent seasons have been honestly disappointing. The new regulations are just underdeveloped projects that need time to perfect. Instead of the great racing, we see our favorite drivers struggling and fighting midfield. So to satisfy my cravings for speed, adrenaline and pure racing I turned to NLS. It was the best decision in my life. NLS is not just a race, or anything that I said previously, it’s a lifestyle. Everything in NLS; the cars and the teams that are present are just mind blowing. Even though I am new to the NLS world, it just fascinates me how great it is. Right now my favorite teams are @scherersportphx @manthey_racing @schubert_motorsport .

With the 24hr Nürburgring Langstrecken- Serie (NLS) is coming up, let’s rewind to earlier 24hr races. What better way to start than by looking all the way back to 2001 season!

- Who dominated the 2001 season? The answer is simple: Zakspeed Viper. A car so fast, that the regulators had to change the regulations just to slow down the car, including restricting fuel capacity and limiting engine displacement. It won the 24 Hours of Nürburgring, driven by Peter Zakowski, Pedro Lamy, and Robert Lechner. This victory was part of a dominant era for Zakspeed at the Nordschleife, featuring a 8.0L V10 engine, distinct yellow Fuji livery, and specialized modifications for high endurance and reliability. It’s a legendary endurance racing car based on the Chrysler/Dodge Viper GTS-R, modified by Germany’s Zakspeed team to dominate the Nürburgring 24 Hours in the early 2000s. Known for its immense power—often exceeding 600 hp to near 1000 hp—it secured victories in 1999, 2001, and 2002.

- Following a 2000 loss to Phoenix Racing, Zakspeed returned to face stiff competition from Porsche’s 996 GT3. The Viper and the black 996 engaged in a fierce duel at the front of the field throughout the initial stages of the race. The battle shifted when the primary challenging Porsche (Menzel/Luhr/Collard/Abt) crashed with a slower car. Zakspeed dominated after the incident, winning with an eight-lap lead over the second-place Porsche crew. This win was part of a successful streak for Zakspeed at the Ring, with victories in 2001, 2002, and 2003, featuring the iconic Fuji-liveried Viper.

Some race highlights of Race 2 Sunday April 19th, 2026 Qualifiers.
- Christopher Haase, Ben Green, and Alexander Sims won the second race of the 2026 24h Nurburgring Qualifiers on Sunday in the #16 Audi R8 LMS GT3 for Team Scherer-Phx. After four hours, the trio crossed the finish line with a lead of 28.024 seconds over the Abt Lamborghini #84 (Engstler/Bortolotti/Niederhauser). Manthey Porsche #911 “Grello” (Preining/Campbell) won third place fending off race attacks from the Winward Mercedes #80 (Engel/Schiller/Stolz). The second Winward Mercedes #3 car was unsuccessful, while Verstappen had incredible overtakes and driving capabilities, the unexpected pit stop due to a damaged splitter broke all hopes of a victory. Pretty much after that the Audi was dominating and won P1! by @sxhnls

Some of the incredible overtakes that happened at the NLS April 19th qualifiers.
- Hasse and Verstappen meet once again on the track and again show everyone a true masterclass. After starting fifth, Verstappen quickly claimed fourth place as he took advantage of #23 BMW going wide, driving around the outside of it out of Turn 2. Verstappen gained third place as he breezed past #911 Porsche with driver Thomas Preining. Within half an hour of the race, Max Verstappen pulls an incredible move on the pole sitting Ferrari taking advantage of the traffic, passing the #16 Audi of Christopher Hasse. Meanwhile Hasse didn’t just let Verstappen get through, even driving alongside Max before he made his first pit stop at the end of lap 5. However, Hasse himself pitted a lap later causing Verstappen to gain an almost 30 second lead. He lost some of this advantage due to him pitting for a second stop that caused Verstappen to loose the victory.

- An intense battle for p3 occurred between #911 “Grello” and the #80 Winward Mercedes. Preining and Schiller showed an intense and entertaining duel, as the Grello had to fend off late race attacks from the Mercedes. However, because the Mercedes team fell below the minimum pit stop time, a 32 second penalty caused them a chance for a better result. Without the penalty time, it may have been possible that Schiller might have had a shot at the top. Preining successfully defended against an overtaking attempt by Schiller on the Dottinger Hohe straight. Slight contact between the cars, more close battles came soon after. After this tough competition, Preining was able to claim the third place.

- IMPORTANT TO MENTION: Even though this race was fun, exciting, and thrilling to watch, it’s remember to note how dangerous Motorsport is and how lethal mistakes can be. Racing driver Juha Miettinen (66) has died after a seven car collision during Saturday, April 18th Nürburgring Langstrecken- Serie (NLS) qualifiers. Despite the immediate arrival of medics, they were unable to save him. This goes to show that no matter how far advanced safety has become in Motorsport, there danger still lingers and is present. by @sxhnls
