if you know me, i always have to escape to somewhere a little more remote on every trip and it has to be slightly stressful to get to as well. 😝 this wildlife river safari was in the middle of the jungle, so it checked that box for me. we stayed at a modest lodge where everything is built on elevated wooden plank boardwalks due it sitting right by the river. everyday, our nature guide would take us out by boat to go spot the wildlife that call the kinabatangan river ecosystem their home. the monkeys and birds decorate the trees like ornaments here. 🤩 the hunt to find the borneo big 5 was almost successful, but we didn’t see any crocs 🐊 due to all the rain that week. the other four we found aplenty—orangutans 🦧 pygmy elephants 🐘 rhinocerous hornbills 🦅 and of course the proboscis monkeys🍆 with a cameo by the river otters 🦦 we only got to experience this tiniest part of borneo, so i definitely want to come back to explore the rest of this beautiful island!!! taken in Borneo, Malaysia by @sxndysomewhere
