Taking a little break from posting about The Glassworker.
~Here's some animation work i did back in 2020 for @play.dew 's latest game "Lost twins 2".
.
I was hired as a freelancer for the project way back to create some character design work which I'll post soon, and some animation work to serve as a guide for the in-game cut scene animations of the bird. Most of my 2D work was replaced with Sprite animation later which is more commonly used in games, so the only thing that technically remained purely handdrawn is the game title animation. Very proud and happy i could contribute to that.

Here's the full animatic for my client @sammarshabir 's animated pitch project "The Barred Window".

To be more precise, an animatic consists of storyboard drawings timed to musical/story beats. In this particular case this was my first time storyboarding an animated anything, credit for taking my drawings and timing them perfectly to the music we chose goes to Mariam Ali ( @cheese_tamagoh ), who helped me in all stages throughout the project. Going into the project we were given very solid inspirations to follow when it comes to the feel of the animation, mainly Death note's opening for the overall theme/vibe and Attack on titan's opening for some of the shot compositions. Since i knew we had roughly 2 months to complete this entire project and make it anime quality (to the best of our abilities), my main goal with the animatic was to plan in a way where even though not every cut is fully animated, even ones where camera is fairly still are made to look dynamic so they can capture the viewers attention. I'll go more into separate cut's details as i start posting them eventually, until then i hope you enjoy this. And yes the audio was ultimately changed to a much more suitable one for the final product.

The Barred Window is a coming-of-age novel by Sammar Shabir. It blends the innocence of childhood with the brutality of war in a dark tale for the search for oneself. It was published by The Dreamwork Collective in 2025, alongside a Pakistani edition with Liberty Books, where it was sitting on the bestsellers list on two, for weeks.

right after we had wrapped up work on the Glassworker at Mano animation studios, we were lucky enough to be chosen as one of the outsourcing studios amongst other global ones to help assist with inbetweening, cleanup and ink and paint work for this film. Many thanks to @studio_souza_ for trusting in us, i got to learn so much from their amazing key animation.

Wait for the ending ... 💥

I became an anime fan long after completing The Barred Window, and it completely changed the way I viewed storytelling as a medium. What fascinated me the most was how well anime handled complex themes, psychological tension, and layered storytelling through young protagonists.

That was when I realised that The Barred Window would lend itself beautifully to this format. The story has always been rooted in atmosphere, symbolism, power structures, and the inner world of children growing up in unstable environments. All things anime often does exceptionally well.

To help bring that vision to life, I collaborated with two incredibly talented young artists @syber.fun and @cheese_tamagoh who worked on the concept with me. Thought The Barred Window would look interesting in anime form.

And the flyers symbolise the escalation of war, since the book ends with flyers falling from the sky, ordering the immediate evacuation of the area for the Rah-e-haq operation to begin, aka The First Battle of Swat, against the Taliban, in 2007. by @syber.fun

LEVEL 3 EXERCISES: Animation no. 25 "Close up of hand closing into fist". Swipe and hold+drag the dots to flip through the individual frames!

Felt like jumping back into these, no excuses to give up practice, even if i'm coming back to it after 2 or so years. Used my right hand as reference, since i'm a lefty. Hope you all like it :)

some time back i decided upon disciplining myself when it comes to personal animation/art i started doing animation exercises from the website animator island : https://www.animatorisland.com/51-great-animation-exercises-to-master/?v=3a52f3c22ed6, the exercises go from easy to difficult. So now i'll be doing new exercises from the website every few days and see where it takes me. This is all in hopes that soon i start an animation project for myself, a short one that is.
