Last Friday, Designer Michel Ferreira exploded onto our stage with his incredible energy, enthusiasm, captivating stories and pearls of wisdom! @multimichel

Michels talk was all about “Gambiarra” a Portuguese word used in Brazil to describe the feeling of getting creative with just what’s available to you in any moment. It might not be the best solution but it’s a solution! And it’s creative. He shared “Gambiarra” stories from his own life, the people of Brazil and companies he’s worked for.

Thank you Michel for your incredible talk, and for teaching us one of the most powerful lessons in creativity. To embrace constraints and hard times as they can be the best fuel for creativity.

A huge thank you to our partners @thecommons and @theideasbodega. Thanks to the volunteers. You rock! And for everyone who came out and made this morning so special ⚡️🙏❤️‍🔥

SPEAKER ANNOUNCEMENT 📣
This month we have the brilliant Michel Ferreira joining us to speak on the theme “LOCAL”. Michel is Brazilian Designer and Design Leader based in Sydney at @figma

🎟️ Register now! Link in bio. Our March event will be at The Commons Chippendale on Friday 20th March.

⚡️Speaker Profile⚡️
Michel Ferreira is hard to define. He’s a Brazilian designer who studied marketing and advertising, wanted to make Pixar movies and be a singer but somehow ended up building the internet instead.

He honed his craft at some of the biggest names in tech: Booking.com in the Netherlands, Shopify in Canada, and Atlassian in Australia, before joining Figma as a Designer Advocate in Sydney.

Over nearly three decades, his work has shaped products used by millions from Booking.com’s Genius loyalty program and mobile app redesign, to launching Shopify’s Fulfilment Network to help merchants compete with Amazon, to the navigation refresh that redefined the look and feel of Atlassian’s entire product suite.

Michel’s superpower is translation — not just between Portuguese and English, but between design and business, craft and strategy, what a team ships and why it should exist.
He brings energy, clarity, and the kind of momentum that makes people leave a room ready to make something real. by @sydney_cm

And we’re back! Our theme for February is CAMINO. It was chosen by our Oviedo chapter in Asturias, Spain and illustrated by Marta Vila. @oviedo_creativemornings

Camino is a Spanish word meaning “path” or “way.”

Our Oviedo chapter had this to say about the significance of this month’s theme:

“It’s inspired by the centuries-old pilgrimage of the Camino de Santiago, which passes through our region in Asturias and has been a symbol of journey, discovery, and transformation for generations.”

You don’t have to know exactly where your path leads, just trust that you’ll learn what you need along the way. Wherever you are headed, we wish you, as they say in Oviedo, “buen camino.” May you have a safe and meaningful journey. taken in Chippendale Sydney by @sydney_cm
