THE ROBIN WILLIAMS CHRONICLES: THE BASE SET 2 BLUES 🌿✨

Most people don’t know this, but Robin Williams didn’t just play video games he was deeply entrenched in the underground TCG scene of the early 2000s.

Rumour has it, during a break on the set of One Hour Photo, Robin challenged a production assistant to a high stakes match. The prize? This exact Base Set 2 Venusaur. Robin won using a questionable Haymaker deck, but the victory was bittersweet.

Look at the back surface wear on Slide 2. That didn’t happen from lack of care. That is authentic wear from Robin keeping this specific slab in his sock during the entire filming of Night at the Museum for “good luck.” He claimed the card’s energy helped him channel Theodore Roosevelt.

When PSA returned it with a Grade 1, Robin reportedly laughed, did a flawless impression of a disgruntled auctioneer, and said,

“It’s not a defect, it’s character development!”

It’s a flawless piece of history. A Base Set 2 icon, forever bound to comedy royalty. by @sydneyattack
