hi my name is Sydney Summers, but don’t be fooled by my name, summer is my least favorite season. In order: 1. Autumn 2. Winter 3. Spring 4. Summer. Cold & cozy > hot & miserable.

I’m writing my debut novel, a dystopian romance that has become one with my brain. I’ve written 3 books before this that have not made it to the publishing endpoint because in my mind they weren’t up to par, but so help me gods, this one will. It took a while for me to find my voice, how I want to tell a story, and discover ✨that✨ idea. I think I have now, but there’s still plenty of room for growth.

I’ve been a reader since I learned how words make sense put together. It’s how I cope with the world and is my favorite form of escapism. I started writing my first book in 2022, an urban fantasy that will always have a special place in my heart. I’ve always loved creative writing but never took it seriously, never thought writing was something I could really pursue. It hit me one day that maybe I could do this too, so I tried.

Now here we are, hundreds of thousands of words later. Let’s see where this goes⚡️🪽

We’re back in the editing cave for line/copy and ohhh my goddess what a journey it has been to get here. I so deeply do not want to manic write draft zero of BH2 so there is less time in edits but thats up to the Fates bc i have no free will (by choice, ironycore)✨

And i’m getting a little emo right now because this is my LAST non marketing update post before we enter the game of “pwetty pwease read my book🥹👉🏼👈🏼”

It’s coming faster than I’d like but also not fast enough. I can’t and will never make up my mind about how i’m feeling about publishing but just know this is something i dont think anyone i know has ever been ready for. Publishing is the great leap into the unknown, so let’s go hand in hand, ya? We live for excitement that borders terror⚡️

Don’t forget me…

We’re so close to the end of revisions! @juliagreenshaw has her now, and tbh i miss my child XD (but i hope youre having fun, might be the wrong word👁️👄👁️)

Once those revisions are finished, she goes to proof, then formatting and RIGHT AROUND THEN is when the Great Perceiving™️ begins (marketing).

But i’m going to publicly announce @shaleys.shelf is going to be my PA!!! I havent told her yet but i hope you were assuming Shaley bc i have been. I love her deeply, ty @lilbookgoblin for introducing us and bringing more purples together💜

I can’t WAIT to share some of my secrets. Title, cover, tropes, ART??? All of the good stuff. The scheming in the background between these lil update posts is relentless.

⚡️Welcome to the inner workings of my mind, so dark and foul I can’t disguise, can’t disguise⚡️

This graphic was pretty fun! Ya wanna know what’s not fun? My FMC’s mental health. She has been traumatized beyond belief, but for better or worse, she has no memories. ~yet~

This book is an extension and [significant] dramatization of my own mental health struggles, so if that kind of darkness isn’t your jam, my book is definitely not for you😌

My dystopian romance is half-baked rn. I’ve returned to the editing cave after getting dev edits back, but wanted to pop my head out and give yall an idea of the aesthetic. Shoutout @lilbookgoblin for being so awesome!

Additional shoutout to my lovely cover artist @rosekettles who is hard at work behind the scenes. I cannot recommend working with her enough! Keturah is not only an incredible artist, but one of the nicest humans I’ve met(: go support her!!

I’m am both excited and nervous to start revealing more and more about this world I’ve created and the characters who run it. I’m also commissioning other artists now to start rolling in character art. I can’t wait for you to meet my babies (both good and evil🙂). Once i have those, i’ll reveal character names!

So definitely still editing book 1~~

But i started drafting book2 on Sunday and it’s so exciting bc i cannot *wait* to write the scenes i have planned🥹 just straight maliciousness. Ugh and the romance UGH.

Anyway. Summer is going to be super busy as I try to keep up with the pub schedule, pray to the goddess for me.

update~

today i finished self revisions and will be sending off to my dev editor soon! I love this story so much and can’t wait to start writing book2, but reading break first

After dev edits, i’ll at long last be able to send the manuscript to my beta readers and then go into copy/line. i’ll start marketing around arc time, but until then i get to be lazy and keep all my secrets🫶🏼

THE END.

Yesterday I completed draft 1. Originally, this concept came to me in October 2025, but it took 2 more months to throw myself into drafting.

75 days later, and now the bones are built. Time to create the walls and add decor. Fill out the structure until it feels like a home.

Basically, editing🥲

So many hours were spent creating this world, getting to know these characters, understanding the plot. I have cover ideas and titles and pretty much everything about this trilogy is planned out. & I cannot WAIT to be able to tell you more.

Very soon I’m going to post about searching for beta readers, so keep an eye out if you’re interested in my little dystopian romance⚡️🪽 i don’t know when the actual start date will be for betas as i need to revise the manuscript myself first. Trust i will keep you all in the loop.

But now that she’s printed and bound, i’m going to play the slasher with my red pen and start implementing edits. I have a strict deadline so hopefully i can keep myself on track, hold myself accountable through posting.

This journey and this milestone are very special to me, so if you’re following along, thanks for joining me on the ride. It’s a rollercoaster and there will be lows as well as highs, but the adrenaline rush i get from storytelling will propel me forward to pub day (makes me sick).

Special thanks go out to @dragonsreads and @elleerheawrites — you two have been constant cheerleaders. Your support is everything to me🩷🩷

Hopefully i don’t get lost in the editing cave, so wish me luck as i try to find my way to the other side🫠 writing a book truly takes a village!!
