Rewind to May 2024. Before he was the politician who took the world by storm, I went to Albany to lobby for a bill called Not on Our Dime, sponsored by @zohrankmamdani

The Not on Our Dime Act aimed to ban NY nonprofits from funding Israeli settlements and settler violence in occupied Palestine. It holds charities accountable for financing human rights violations and gives the state power to dissolve those that do.

After a long day of lobbying, Zohran closed the day with a speech that genuinely moved me. I didn’t know who he was when I showed up, but after hearing him speak, I became an instant fan.

I share this to show that the Zohran you see on TV is authentically who he is: a man who truly embodies Nelson Mandela’s words, “It always seems impossible until it’s done.”

Even when the odds are stacked against him, he keeps pushing. He might not fulfill every promise because the system is built to fight people like him, but I know he will work, fight, and try with everything he has. Maybe it will not all happen this term, but he will not stop until he succeeds.

His campaign has already defied expectations, and I know his time as our mayor will be no different.

So please, go vote for this man, I swear to God!! 🙏🏽🔥 taken in New York, New York by @sydneyzee_

@shadowbannedmagazine’s debut at the @printedmatter_artbookfairs was incredible! I had such a blast meeting so many amazing people and sharing work that makes us laugh, think, and engage with the dystopias of today. Excited for what’s ahead and looking forward to many more! taken in MoMA PS1 by @sydneyzee_

So thrilled to share that I have been selected to be a part of the @newmuseum’s @newinc program!

I created @shadowbannedmagazine in response to the resounding silence I witnessed around the situation in G@z@. I saw a problem that needed to be fixed. Too many people’s livelihoods are tied to being complicit in a system they don’t even agree with and worse, those who were being vocal were actively silenced by social media platforms.
I realized that relying on platforms controlled by people who don’t care about us or about humanity was dangerous. Especially in the face of fascism, I knew we needed a space where people could tell stories that challenge the system.
Equally important was making sure these stories are preserved in a physical form, not just stored in a cloud that could disappear at any moment, leaving this history vulnerable to being rewritten or forgotten.

I also wanted to build a space for the people who define our culture (the artists and writers) to see that they don’t have to be afraid to speak their minds, and that it’s possible to earn money while being on the right side of history. That’s why we pay our contributors. Although modest at the moment, I hope that as we grow, we can pay more.

I took a risk in doing this, hoping to lead by example and show that doing what’s right does not have to be a career killer. I hope this amazing opportunity with New INC reflects that, and the continued opportunities and success we have. I say this because I hope a million projects like @shadowbannedmagazine emerge. If we invest our money in building our communities and uplifting each other instead of random bullshit, we can create alternative systems and new ways of life where everyone is valued equally and has a decent quality of life.

Please give @shadowbannedmagazine a follow and engage with our content. We face a lot of shadowbanning on Instagram, so your engagement helps a lot! Purchase a copy or become a member to help support this work! Also, submit something?? Would love to hear y'alls voices.
